problem #2

May 012009

Camry LE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

The driver's side seat was stuck and could not move back. The seat went to the limit of the channel bracket and apparently got stuck. They replaced with USED channel brackets (rusted) and saved us $600 plus when they told us the new one would be over $1,000!!!! Are you kidding me, for two channel brackets? That is all it was, two channel brackets. But, even if it is one in a thousand or ten thousand, we really wouldn't expect a company like Toyota to come to the rescue.

The problem was described by the dealer as a "broken gear shaft" in the bottom of the seat. They told me that the only fix was to replace the entire bottom assembly of the seat.. The part alone cost me $1200. The installation was another $300+. When I looked at the original assembly, the only problem was that a very small weld had broken. Nothing was bent. Nothing else was broken. They at no time mentioned what the problem was. I no longer trust them to accurately describe any repair to me. After some negotiation, the dealer gave me back $600. I am still out $1000. I have since transferred to another dealer.
