I have had this Toyota Camry 2002 XLE since 2004 and never had a problem with it until in August 2013 I was parking at a CVS and it accelerated out of control. I was able to get it under control by putting car in Neutral and slamming on brakes. Then in October of 2014 it happened again and it jumped a curb and down and embankment, but again was able to control car by putting it in Neutral and slamming on brakes. Then in June of 2015 it happened in a Walmart parking lot and again was able to stop it like I did previously.

I took it to a Toyota Dealer here in North Chesterfield Virginia but they could not find anything wrong with car. But there is differently something wrong with this car...but of course Toyota won't admit to it!

have a 2002 Camry LE that has a two acceleration issues: At 40mph the engine would cut-out/knock (not gasoline based knocking) in rapid succession causing the engine/car to shake. Took toyota mechanic out to replicate on a test drive and the 'solution' they changed sensor on bank #1 and #2 and they also changed timing belt ,hydraulic stiffener belt. swapped solenoid with an other car they cleaned/treated injector with stuff and gaz tank also. the problem changed with to a higher frequency they changed the computer

After a couple of days of no issues same problem came back and now the higher speed cut-out/knocking issue is showing up at 50mph and 60mph. Both issues only appear when there is no load on the engine - in other words: bring car up to speed; take foot off accelerator to coast; reapply very light pressure to the accelerator just to maintain speed (e.g. 'tickle' the pedal). Car is back in toyota shop today. very, very frustrating as there was never any software upgrades to my car in the past so why would the software magically have an issue? Car currently has 80K miles and has run like a dream until now. Any/all advice welcomed.

At 40mph the engine would cut-out/knock (not gasoline based knocking) in rapid succession causing the engine/car to shake. Took toyota mechanic out to replicate on a test drive and the 'solution' was to flash the car's computer to fix the engine-to-transmission software.
