I have been a loyal toyota customer since 1993. I have bought several Toyotas. I can honestly say the quality has gone down hill the past several years. The 1992 Camry was the best camry ever!!! From then on it's been fair and now poor. The steering shaft in my car needs replacement. My 1992 camry - I never had to do anything to it! That is when Toyota really cared about quality and customer service. Now they only care about the big MONEY - GREED. I do feel the engine and transmission are of good quality but everything else is CRAP. By the way this is a Japan model.
I hope Toyota comes back and makes me a happy customer again. I hope they fix my steering shaft. As of right now they lost me and my family as a customer. As soon as I can afford to get rid of them I'm finished unless they personally make things better for me. Look out Honda - I will be coming! I love what you do for us - not true anymore. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU..... Get busy and fix the problems! Let us beleive in you again!

Apparently a very common problem with these cars. New shaft fixed it. Don't expect these problems from Toyota, that is why i bought it. Toyota has dropped several notches in recent years.

I was assured the problem is quite common for some models and the sound and feel of the problem is due to a check valve in the power steering system for 4 cyl. Camry's. Have another Camry 6 cyl. 2002 model that is silent. .

I looked at the 2003 section, and it seems they have the problem also.

First off with this car...Car Fax is giving customers bogus info...my car had been in two accidents prior to purchasing it and they denied the claim....I did my research and contact the original owner Hertz rental car and they gave me the factual info. I contacted the Department of Motor Vehicle, where the car originated.....Car Fax do not support their commitments. According to Car fax the accidents were not reported to DMV.... Hertz...had proof and repair their own car and are not reporting accidents. Regardless I believe I am owed $25,000 from Car Fax....It's not my problem they did not fully investigate this care and failure to properly obtain this info...or their plan to cover up these findings are wrong and is a dis justice to each customer who pays for their untrustworthy services.
Something in my steering makes a clunking noise and cause my tires to come out of alignment regularly. The noise is awful and Toyota should compensate each customer by recalling the steering assembly on this car and absorb the cost of the repairs....because they stand by their product and want customers coming back.

I feel this on the steering wheel especially when its cold outside. It's annoying but I don't know if it is serious.

I noticed periodically that when I slightly turn the steering wheel mostly to the right I feela and hear a single clunk somewhere in the front steering area. Maybe, something loose somewhere in the steering system. My wife has always had the car serviced at the Toyota Dealership in Cerritos, CA. They want to fix this complaint at an extremely high price. But how many times my wife has complained about the automatic transmission hesitation and they totally ignore her. No more Toyotas for my family!

the noisy steering started in the winter of 2006 but stopped when summer came and it was hot. Started again when weather cooled in October 2007. Should have taken it in when warranty still in force but no dealers close by so forgot it when noise stopped. Too late now so will probably have to pay through nose.
