Camry AT 2.4L

I have lodged 2 complaints to Toyota Japan and Toyota Malaysia respectively. Reply I received was, Toyota is willing to pay 50% of the cost of the dashboard. This is a manufacturing defect since I have read the same complaints from the internet and also mechanics are talking about it. Toyota is keeping quiet about this problem on the expense of Camry owners. I doubt the irresponsible company is going to recall all the cars especially model 2007.

I have lodged a complaint to the Public Complaints Biro, Prime Minister's Department and I am questioning the local authority which is responsible for checking and certifying all vehicle parts before it's being installed. I would have agreed to pay for the parts and even the workmanship if it's a wear and tear issue. In this case, it's NOT. Melting dashboard is a serious problem and if left unattended, will cause disaster.

I have demanded for a confirmation that the smell from the melting dashboard is not harmful to human and that the crack as a result of the melting dashboard will not cause the airbags to explode when it's exposed to heat. Toyota refused to provide any guarantee and again, we are made "suckers" ! There is no business ethics at all and my next cause of action is to take photos of the melting dashboard and put it in the FACEBOOK.

Update from Oct 23, 2014: Hi Guys, For those who has the same problem, post it into the facebook. Let the whole world know that Toyota has no business ethic. They are endangering our life while they make millions. So much for their excellent customer service and superior products.

Update from Dec 22, 2014: Up to date, the offer of 50% discount on the dashboard still stand but ends this month. Workmanship will be charged. Toyota will cover all the cost as service charge and labor charge.

This whole episode makes me very angry not only Toyota but all Japanese companies. I had high respect for the Japanese as they are known for their product quality, good customer service and value for money products. I have stopped visiting Japanese restaurants, no more Japanese super markets and not even Japanese dramas. If Toyota can do this to their customers, can you imagine what quality assurance can we get from smaller Japanese companies?

First noticed the marks behind the steering wheel. My wife thought it was her ring doing the damage but it is just a fingernail. Even the screen that was put up to protect from the sun made a mark on the dash.

It's unbelievable that so many people have complained about the Camry's dashboards melting, and nothing has been done about it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it/felt it. My parents bought a brand new 2007 Camry, and the vehicle only has 45k miles on it right now (August, 2014), and the problem didn't occur until the 3-year warranty ended. At the time they had about 25K miles on it and figured Toyota wouldn't help them out since the 3-year mark had already been hit. I am SHOCKED, with all of the complaints I've seen, that a recall hasn't been issued for this problem. I am trying to take care of the problem for them, but haven't had any luck thus far. Any suggestions?

Dash is sticky and I have found no way to clean it. It is worse than fly paper. Every insect that lands on it gets stuck there until I remove it. The glare on the windshield is very bad and I have had some close calls because I was unable to see due to the glare. I've asked my dealer about the problem and I was told there is nothing they can do. They blame it on using Armorall on the dash. I have always had good luck with Toyota, but this will be my last Toyota.

I have been talking to Toyota customer service for over 3 years and they offered me $750 credit towards the total cost of replacing the dash of $2400. They said it was for my loyalty but since the car is out of warranty they have no obligation to do anything. They also said that they have no complaints, but if you look at all the postings on the internet, you will see that they are blatantly lying.

This is a major safety hazard as the melted dash shines so much that when you are driving into the sun the reflection off the windshield blinds you totally. Toyota needs to resolve this.

Just got a call from Toyota and they're willing to "split" the cost with me. They are sooooo gracious. My "half" would be roughly $1000. I will make it a point to let everyone I can hear about this.

My dashboard is melting. It's melting so bad this is safety issue in my opinion.

When sun is shining outside around noon, reflection from melted dashboard is so bad on windshield, you can't even see it. If this leads to an accident, I'll surely sue Toyota for this.

THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO WIPE DOWN FOR DUST. I CAN'T USE SUN SHIELDS IN MY WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THEY STICK TO DASH AND HAVE TORN A SPOT IN MY DASH. THE STRIP ACROSS THE DASH WITH THE CLOCK IS PERFECTLY OKAY. NO GUMMINESS AT ALL.
