I have brought my vehicle in several times complaining about my shiny, sticky, and dangerous dashboard. It is a recall but my Toyota dealership advised me it would be over $2500 to replace. After call the head corporation it was dropped down but I still can't afford it. It is extremely dangerous and distracting I try to cover the shininess but whatever touches the dash gets stuck to it and I am loosing piece after piece. It is not safe to drive when it is sunny or raining as the reflection shines right in my view while driving. I live in Florida and it is always one or the other here. Thank you for addressing this.

Dashboard material melts in warm and sunny conditions. Dash becomes excessively sticky and has developed a shiny surface that causes continuous glare (under sunny conditions) causing visibility problems for the driver. Ongoing safety issue and well documented for this Camry model/year.

9-30-2014: My dashboard as been melting for more than a year. At first I just thought it was soft on especially hot days, but the condition continued to deteriorate. Now pieces are starting to come off and visibility is getting worse daily as the dash becomes shinier. I park my car in a carport out of the sun. I drive the car short distances once a week or less. I contacted my local Toyota dealer in gainesville Florida several times asking what to do. They finally told me to call Toyota corporate, which I did in August. They said they were unaware of other owners with problems and since I was out of warranty and was not a preferred customer (since I haven't purchased more than one Toyota) there was nothing they could do. Today I went to the local dealer in person. [xxx], the service rep, said it would cost $3,000 to replace, or I could get a dashboard cover. However, he told me that I had to be careful about covering the air bag on the passenger side. How many owners are trying to deal with this issue on their own with covers only to cause a malfunction of the air bag in an accident"! I'm so exasperated with how Toyota has been dealing with the problem I began an internet search today and discovered the media reports and hundreds of complaints. Wow! when I talked to [xxx] today I asked him if he has seen this issue. He looked down at the dashboard and said, "no." Is this how Toyota is training their reps? to lie to their customers" I guess so now that I see the reporting of the problem and news that a lawsuit has been filed by ferraro law firm in miami. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Glare from dashboard distracted me. Also seems that dashboard is melting and breaking apart in small areas. Main concern is the glare, it seems that glare is getting worse along with the melting. Really worried that glare might distract to the point of an accident. Tried cleaning but nothing seems to work, cloth or paper products start to stick to dashboard.

I began noticing that the dashboard of my Camry was becoming shiny/wet looking approx a year ago. It has progressively gotten worse and now it is so bad that there is a glare on my windshield during daylight driving. This vehicle stays in an enclosed garage and no harsh/caustic cleaning agents have ever been applied to the dashboard. The dashboard is soft and sticky. It is literally melting! additionally, there is a foul odor as a result of the melting dashboard.

Over the course of the past year, the dashboard of my Camry has devolved into a sticky, shiny mess. The surface of most of the dashboard has a gluey texture, with the parts nearest the windshield having completely liquefied. The sticky areas are very shiny, causing glare that covers much of the windshield when driving towards the sun or under streetlights. This glare is very distracting and significantly reduces visibility.

My 2007 Toyota Camry SE has a melted dashboard that severely diminishes visibility when the sun is out. A reflection from the dashboard is displayed on the windshield and is like looking directly into the sun. Sooner or later this is going to be the cause of an accident that may or may not result, but not limited to death. It is a defect on the part of Toyota and should be addressed immediately before someone gets hurt. I have two small children and their lives should not be put in danger for an obvious defect that must be corrected.

The dashboard on my vehicle is melting. It's sticky, looks wet, and on some days it actually feels like clay. When the sun is out it's very difficult to see due to the intense glare. There have been many days I try to look at the right side of the road when there's been oncoming traffic like you do when someone is coming at you with their hi-beams on. There have been numerous vehicle safety complaints made concerning this issue but no recalls have been issued. With the amount of people reporting the exact same issue its time for someone to step up and make others with the ability to help do the right thing. This is nonsense.

The dash board on my 2007 Toyota Camry has become extremely soft and glares back into the window causing it hard to see. This clearly should be a defect that needs to be addressed before anyone gets hurt. It is clear to see this is not an isolated case as per all the postings on the internet. I hope that the Agency in charge of safety looks at this as a real problem and not wait until something bad happens before reacting.

On 9/19/14, I spoke with "[xxx]", customer experience center, Toyota headquarters regarding my melting dashboard. I explained that it's a security issue that Toyota has been made aware of, and which I became aware of by local media. I informed her that there's a significant glare from my dashboard, and anything that comes in contact with it sticks, so I can't even use a visor. The local dealership in delray beach, fl has offered to replace the dashboard for an out-of-pocket expense to me of $600 (total reportedly normally $2000), however, I advised Toyota headquarters that there should be no cost to me due to the known security issues, reported accidents, their company's integrity and my loyalty as a longtime Toyota customer. [xxx] reminded me that my car was out of warranty, and that "out of respect for you, the dealership is offering you assistance. We don't have a recall notice or customer support for this vehicle, so there will be no further assistance." As a corporation, Toyota should be ashamed and be proactive in resolving this issue. Ultimately, someone will be successful in their misfortune when a loved one is seriously injured or dies in an accident attributed to the glare. Toyota headquarters should have been willing to send me a voucher or my local dealership for the $600 to replace my dashboard. Public opinion can affect their bottomline and they're obviously willing to put the public at risk to save a few dollars upfront.

The top of the dashboard is tacky or sticky and extremely shiny. Sunlight reflects off the surface of the dashboard, creating a glare that obstructs vision. The sticky nature of the dashboard surface makes it difficult to clean. The material is extremely soft and easy to damage.
