  • 80,000 miles
I had my rear brakes installed at hollywood Toyota in October of 2013. As I left the dealership once the job was complete, my ABS light, the brake light came on, my speed odometer stopped working along with my ac which started blowing hot air. I took the car back the following day and got the runaround. The Toyota mechanic said it was the alternator since it was new, and it was giving to much amps. I immediately took the car back to the place the alternator was put in. The problem still existed after going back and forth with the problem. My service tech [xxx] said I would have to pay to have a diagnostic test done on the car. Of course I got mad! when I bought the car in I had no problems with the vehicle. The Sunday before my last visit to hollywood Toyota, it started raining, which caused my windows to fog up inside and me driving in a ditch because of poor visibility. Not from the outside, but from the inside everything became fogging in the interior of the car, where I either had to make contact with a car in front of me or go off into the ditch to avoid an accident from whipping the window trying to see in front of me. When, I saw hollywood Toyota not wanting to except responsibility for the actions it has caused! I contacted Toyota corporate and they in turn allowed me to take the car in for another diagnostic without cost. After leaving the dealership, the problem was no better then I took it in. But in addition to me taking it in. I went online and saw I was not the only one who had problem with the ABS, brake light style coming on along with the speedometer not working. After dang near pulling what hair I have left out, I am reaching out to you to help eliminate this problem before a major accident occur and lives are lost, because someone else who's ac may not be working on the account of the electrical system failing would be a tragedy. Times and mileage are approximate because we did not know at the beginning that this would be a persistent problem. Around January 1, 2014, when we started the Camry after leaving the grocery store, four dash warning lights and a message display went on and stayed on (brake system (red), brake system (yellow), master warning (red), anti-lock brake system (yellow), and "check vsc system" (in display)). During this time the vehicle had no power assist brakes, no anti-lock brakes, and as best we can determine - no vehicle stability control system; it had only manual hydraulic brakes that were hard to push and slow to stop the car. We drove the car home carefully and parked it. When we next started the Camry the lights were not lit, and all systems worked. When the same problem occurred at a later date we took the car to a local Toyota dealer. The lights were still on when we dropped off the car. The dealership reported that there were no warning lights lit when they investigated the problem; no diagnostic codes were recorded by the vehicle's electrical system. We agreed that upon the next occurrence we would drive the Camry to the dealer without turning it off. Unfortunately, at the next occurrence the lights illuminated, the brake assist systems were inactive, but the condition reversed itself as we drove to the dealer (without turning off any systems). The dealer found no codes upon testing for this occurrence. We agreed the dealer would come to the car at the next occurrence. Unfortunately that happened in the middle of the night on the highway (65 mph) and the dealer was not available. This brings us current to 4/28/14. We are concerned about driving the car without ABS or vsc systems, and we believe that the manufacturer should have information about how these conditions have been corrected in other vehicles even with no diagnostic codes.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle would ride roughly and shake when traveling at any speed. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where it was diagnosed that a wheel alignment needed to be performed. The wheel alignment was completed and the contact was also advised that the rotors were rusted and should have been replaced when the brakes were most recently replaced. The failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Updated 08/14/14

My Toyota only had 15000 miles and the brakes stopped functioning. I took it to Toyota and they stated it was wear and tear. However, because of the low mileage they decided to repair the brakes. They said the brake pump was faulty. The brake pump is below the car and unable to be seen by the naked eye. Since 2009, I have had my brakes serviced 3 more times and the car now only has 60000 miles. The brake pads will not stop squeaking even if they are brand new.

While driving or idling, brake and ABS light get lit and speedometer is not working, odometer is jumping up and down and heat needle is intermittently going normal/cold. The mileage meter is not working and this all goes away when those lights either reset on their own or some other way not known to me how. While driving not knowing how fast is vehicle going its very dangerous and Toyota is not doing what they should do and announce recall because there are large number of people complaining about this issue and have problem with the same. I took car to the Toyota grossinger dealer in lincolnwood il and first time after over 4 hours there they said its only battery and positive terminal. After extensive complaining and filing the survey they decided to give another try and check again, this time took over 4 hours to find out but they did found that ABS actuator needs replacement and that would be well over $4000 which is absurd because this part breaks due to extreme winter temperatures of -10F and below. Known fact that in Chicago we had very hard winter this year, if not one of the strongest since we broke several records in temperature and wind chills and amount of snow fallen to the ground, with number of polar vortex weather that we couldn't control. Now we are left with faulty part that leaves us driving like that because its not easy and very possible to pay the sum of money like $4000 for one part for a car that already I paid almost $30,000. I wish that you guys give the push to fix this problem before it causes casualties all over country like other similar problems with Toyota Camry's happened in the past.

I started my car and the "check vcs system" light as well as other indicator lights came on. After a few seconds they went away. I proceeded to drive down the street as normal. About 30 seconds into my drive, traveling at approximately 15mph, the "check vcs system" light as well as other indicator lights came on again. When I applied the brakes right after the indicator lights came on I discovered that I had no power brakes. I had to press on the pedal extremely hard for the car to come to a stop. This is a very serious and dangerous situation and I hope you can investigate this problem with Toyota.

This all started December 16, 2013, when I lost power while driving and my car broke down on the road. I had the master cylinder, alternator, battery, and air mass flow sensor replaced. Picked the car up drove it home and she still felt a little sluggish but I figured the car was cold. Went to have it inspected the next day and my brakes were locked! had it towed back to the shop and he replaced the master cylinder again. Pickedt it up drove it home and the car started shaking at 60 mph again I figured it was cold and made it home. Next day drove it to work, the car went to 50, 40, and then 30 mph and would not go faster than that! I had it towed back to the shop and my mechanic did some research and it appears this is a known issue with 2006 and 2007 models. It starts with the braked cylinder and as long as the brakes don"T get hot it runs fine. Once they get hot the brakes applies itself which forces your car to slow down! this is so dangerous! you basically have to replace you entire brake line and or check all the hoses, brake booster ext. Until you can pinpoint the problem. Is Toyota doing a recall on this"

I was driving my car with my mother in it taking her to a doctor appointment. I was entering onto I-95 northbound from route 273 trying to merge into traffic, I was almost on the highway. The car suddenly accelerated and catapulted us across 4 lanes of traffic. The police said I hit another car, spun around and ended up facing the oncoming traffic stopped only by the guardrail. My mom had to be extricated from the car. I recall applying the brakes and the car not stopping, I also tried to put on my left turn signal but that would not work either. I later learned that the 2007 Camry (nearly 4 million of them) had been recalled for sudden acceleration problems. I was told by Toyota that nothing was wrong with my car but there is no way I intentionally went across 4 lanes of interstate highway traffic. Really"?" my car was totaled. My mother was injured and was hospitalized from that day until mid December. It was a very difficult time. I would like for Toyota to take responsibility for their malfunctioning product and do the proper justifiable, compensatory thing. The other driver was injured and I believe her car was totaled as well.

Like many others with this particular car (hybrid), check vsc system warning came on along with many warning lights on the car and the brakes stopped functioning properly. Instead of normal breaking, it now takes pushing them all the way down sometimes. Toyota dealer quotes $2600 for the same repair (part replacement) that lots of other people are griping about online? especially since the part is only available from Toyota. The car does not feel safe to drive under these conditions. There are many complaints about the very same problem. For example: www.consumeraffairs.com/news/feds-investigate-braking-problems-in-Toyota-Camry-hybrid-012814.html here's 7 pages of gripes: www.toyotanation.com/forum/105-Camry-hybrid/401450-2007-tch-check-vsc-system-code-C1391.html here's 11 more pages on a website someone created especially for this particular issue: Https://www.checkvscsystem.com/guestbook.php and there's many more. Please do something. Toyota's official stance is to claim "no recall" and leverage being the only source of the part to make a killing off of this (apparently) mass problem (for this car).

ABS brake system failed after "check vsc system" light came on during normal drive. Here is a link to a website where numerous other owners of this car (hybrid model) have had similar incidents. Https://www.checkvscsystem.com/home.html some have had crashes and some have had near misses with pedestrians, vehicles, etc. This is a very serious safety issue that Toyota refuses to acknowledge. Toyota issued a service bulletin for the software on this module T-sb-0174-12, but claims our failure was different. Total failure of the ABS brake module after less that 45,000 miles indicates that this is a problem that could occur at anytime, in any Camry. It appears that Lexus cars also are affected. We got a partial reduction on the repair ($1500 instead of $3000), but Toyota wanted the part. We kept it and can provide it to you for testing and inspection. The failure occurs without any warning and some people on the web site I sent you had the failure occur on the highway at highway speeds. Fortunately ours happened as my wife was driving from a stop at a red light. We were lucky. Please investigate this before someone is killed or seriously injured. Thank you.

I'm returning home from work and driving on a freeway with 60mph limit. I remember driving at 45mph and maintained a very good distance from the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle in front of me tried to slowed down and that prompted me to apply the brakes. All of a sudden brakes failed and couldn't control the car to stop. The car just skidded and hit the van with big force. Luckily the vehicle in front of me is a shuttle and no passengers injured. Engine and front part damaged very bad and I myself hit my face to the steering wheel. I cut my lip and hit on my nose very bad. I still recovering from injuries. Though the crash is so bad, air bags didn't deploy and resulted injuries on me. The police and others who tried to help me wondered why the air bags didn't deploy. All these days I'm trying to recover from the injuries and couldn't send this complaint over. I got the website reference after checking with my insurance company. Could you please help me on this? thank you in advance.

Driving my Camry hybrid this morning on the way to work, stopped by gas station for snacks and drink, brake system completely failed upon backing out of my stall. Brakes would not work going forward or in reverse. "check vsc system" message appeared on my dash. Looked it up in owners manual. Told me brakes worked but to drive slow. Immediately drove home. Had to stop at multiple four way stops, nearly wrecked twice. Vehicle is very dangerous. Luckily no one was hurt or killed. This is a major safety issue that Toyota needs to resolve! turns out it is my ABS accumulator, Toyota wants $2500 to fix. I want Toyota to fix it for free since it is a safety system malfunction on a low mileage vehicle.
