2007 Toyota Camry xle with smart key, keyless ignition. Page 320 of the owners manual states caution "do not touch the engine start stop switch while driving", in bracketed yellow background. Next paragraph states in regular bw print; "if you have to make an emergency stop, press and hold the engine start switch for more than three seconds. The fallacy of this is the vehicle speed must be under 3 mph. If you apply the emergency brake/parking brake the engine will quit at below 40 mph. I went thru several tests to determine this flaw. This is poor design. I have heard via tv that the Lexus 350, almost same vehicle as Camry xle except for nicer interior and seats, has an uncommanded acceleration problem. Probably all 2007 Lexus vehicles have keyless ( smart key) ignition. If you were traveling at 70 mph and got uncommanded acceleration with smart key you would be in a bad situation. I have not had an uncommanded acceleration and do not want one at interstate speeds.
