I am having to add oil frequently, even though I've had the oil changed regularly every 3-4K miles. Poor quality with this car. Yellowed headlights re-yellow 3-4 months after treatment, suspected short in radio, sun visor broke at 75K miles. Will NEVER buy another Toyota.

I had lot of respect for Toyota . My uncle also drives the same car and model and is facing the same issue forever now. I thought it's just one of those issues for uncle however it's happening to most 2007 Camry owners. What Toyota is doing about it?????? What don't they come fwd and due their job
I won't go for Toyota in future
good bye Toyota
Sad and unhappy and frustrated customer

Have to check every 500 miles. Have to add oil, maybe 1/2 quart each time. Engine runs good..

I'm driving on the interstate in 5 o'clock traffic on a Friday afternoon. It is stop and go traffic for miles. My check engine light comes on, the temperature gauge reads hot and by the time I get over to the slow lane to pull over, the engine starts rattling, the engine dies and car starts smoking from under the hood and I end up on the shoulder of a busy interstate. The car won't start and won't even try to turn over. I wait for tow truck for 1 1/2 hours and have it towed to Toyota. Saturday, Toyota calls and says the engine is fried and ther is nothing they can do.
He estimates the cost of new engine and labor to be approximately $5,000.00. Toyota is supposed to document why this happened and let me know for sure what happened. This will be on Monday (tomorrow). After doing some online research, I came across this website and was surprised to see all the complaints with oil consumption. I had the oil change 6 weeks ago and wouldn't even begin to think it had anything to do with oil leak/consumption problems until I saw all the complaints for the 2007 Toyota Camry. I will update again when I hear what they have to say.

I had an oil consumption test done.
removed tamper proof stickers and added 1 quart of oil. oil level just past full mark on dipstick.
claimed this is passing and my vehicle does not qualify for the fix which would be replacing piston rings. I assume the idea is to wait out the warranty so it becomes totally my problem. 83,000 miles--extended warranty expires at 100,000 miles.
I was told if I was dissatisfied, I could do another consumption test. Dissatisfied doesn't describe how Ifeel--more like enraged and ready to sue.

I have had more than 13 cars [different brands] in my 25 years of driving, but this is the first time I see an engine that drinks oil like gasoline!
Like the other comments already posted, my 2007 Camry dries up the engine oil if left unattended for more than a month. I'm driving on the highway approx.100 km/day (and no more than 2100 km/month).
I took the car to the dealership a couple of times to hear that this oil consumption is listed as normal. Their "normal" does not match the Oxford dictionary for normal... Perhaps, they should let us know what "normal" really means! :)
There is are serious engineering flaws in the 2007 Camry's engine that MUST be acknowledged and corrected by Toyota.
Don't we have a strong case here yet?

My Camry has needed a quart of oil every 1000 miles since last October. Now one year and one month later, we have to put 2 quarts in. I have come to the conclusion that this really is not normal. I went and put a search in to Google and found out that I was not alone on this problem and Toyota had problems with certain years and makes. My car year and make was one of these. They said it was because of pistons not being right. They also said that the warranty was not valid because of the mileage and year of the cars mentioned. What I want is the problem fixed by Toyota who had known about it long before the warranty was done. I have had my Toyota for 8 years and I have always told anyone who would listen that I would have my Toyota when the speedometer reads 300,000. I hope Toyota will listen to a devoted owner.

I spent $1400 to fix what I was told by the Highway 27/Rexdale dealer was an oil leak. As it turned out the oil was burning above the pistons. I understand that a recall has been issued. Please provide me with details.

I purchased an 2007 Camry LE from a Toyota dealership in San Diego Ca, my whole family has purchased cars from the same dealership. I would say close to ten total. I have always brought my car in for maintenance at the some dealership where we purchase all our cars from. They never once told me that there has been any issues at all.
Recently my vehicle has been making an excessive noise in the engine, so on my next oil change conveniently after my 100k miles they sat me In a office and said "we hate to say this to a pregnant women, but your car engine is no good and it will cost $2,000 for us to look at it". I said no thanks and I'll look into it. After doing research I found the 2AZ-FE oil consumption test (which was never brought up to me by the dealer) I asked them about this and what's going on they then told me to immediately bring it in and they will run the test. Within 400miles the oil is completely empty! I just left the dealership and dropped it off.
They are refusing to do anything and saying it was a prior engine issue, which is bullshit . This is a known issue with certain Toyotas and they refuse to admit to the issue and fix the problem, they made the parts cheap and this is the result. I would never in my lifetime buy another vehicle through Toyota and I will sure tell all my family and friends not to either.

This car has been increasing burning significant amounts of oil. It is to the point that I need to add several quarts in between oil changes.
- Chris A., Goodrich, MI, US
Excessive oil consumption. Started around 92,000 with the oil light coming on with only 3000 miles after oil change and saw that engine oil was non-existent. Started having to keep quarts of oil in trunk to make sure engine stayed full. Now, I have to put a quart of oil in every 1000 miles to keep it full. Currently at 129,000.

My 2007 camry does not have visible leaking to the ground, but with minor visible oil leaking on the oil pan. I started to notice this when it was fixed for a different problem in pepboy around 2011 - oil level very low. Since then I closely monster oil level every week, needed to add 1 art per 1000 miles. Right now need to add 1 art per 250 miles - ridiculous high oil consumption
- Jay M., Green Brook, US
Just want to gripe like others about the Oil Consumption issue. No leak, no burning oil just a lot of oil being used and every week putting in oil as a result of this oil consumption issue that Toyota claims is normal

I received a letter from Toyota corporation about an oil consumption issue known to affect my model Toyota ( 2007 Camry 4 cylinder ). The issue is that the engine is burning to much oil. Toyota states in the letter that this is a known issue with this model and if you are experiencing the symptoms stated in the letter to take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership for an oil consumption test. The letter stated that this was not a recall but rather an extension of the manufactures warranty. It states that the dealership will run an oil consumption test. This is done by topping of the engine oil and sealing the cap and have the consumer drive the car for about 1100 miles and bring it back so they can check the oil level. If your vehicle is having the issue then Toyota would replace and fix the necessary parts. The letter states that if you test shows no issue you can bring it back a second time to have it retested. The symptoms included the low oil light coming on. I never had an issue with low oil in my car until recently. My car has approximately 175,000 miles on it. I found my oil light coming on before hitting the 3000 mile mark after an oil change. This happened to me between three different oil changes. There were no oil spots from oil leaking out of the bottom and I had the top oil cover gasket replace about a year ago. So I took my car to a Toyota dealership and they seem to not have a clue about the issue. I showed them the letter and the tech stated that they do not have the parts to fix the issue and they may have to re-ring the engine (being sarcastic I guess). The tech also stated that they could do nothing about the issue at the moment until they receive further instructions from corporate if they did indeed find a problem. When the test was complete the service department stated to me that did not find any issues with oil consumption in my vehicle. I found that very odd. I regret signing off on the service sheet that they have you sign before giving you the car back. What's even stranger my oil consumption light stop coming on after my visit to the dealership. Now, what really prompted me to write this letter was I ran into a complete stranger with the same year and model car that was experiencing the exact same problem. After having the conversation with the stranger he stated that he took his vehicle in for the oil consumption test and they told him the same thing they told me. They found no issue. Now what really bothers me is that this guy told me that his low oil light stop coming on after his oil consumption test as well. This really infuriated me because it seems as if the Toyota dealerships are not honoring Toyota's warranty. Seems as if they are finding a cheap quick fix by using some type of engine sealant as a temporary fix to shut consumers up. By the time that sealant wears off the engine the issue will return and will probably be worse and the warranty extension will have expired. I stand behind Toyota cars as they are reliable and I have owned 2 Camrys now for more than 10 years. This was a shocker to me to find their dealerships pulling this type of scam to avoid correcting a known issue with their products.
I would like Toyota to stand behind its commitment to its products. I would like for Corporate to address the dealerships that are doing this to consumers and have them correct the issue. I would like to have my engine fixed the correct way and not patched with a quick fix to shut me up and send me out the door while saving a dealership money on its bottom line. I look forward to purchasing more Toyota vehicles in the future but this has put doubt in my mind. Please Toyota Motor Corporation do the right thing and honor your warranty. I live in Tennessee as well as the stranger I ran into does too. I will share more information with what dealership I had the experience with. I would like someone to contact me so we can resolve this issue.

Took car to dealer for "oil consumption test". Result shows 1/2 oil consumed after 1000 miles! They said that this is normal - unbelievable. Basically, after 5000 miles (normal oil change cycle), there is no more engine oil left. And Toyota believes this is OK? How ignorant do you think the public is?

THIS IS THE SECOND TOYOTA WE'VE PURCHASED NEW - THE FIRST ONE, A 1993 CAMRY XLE WE DROVE UNTIL 2007 AND HAD 186,000 MILES ON IT AND IT USED ZERO OIL!!! THE SECOND, A 2007 CAMRY XLE STARTED USING OIL AFTER 40,000 MILES, WE CHANGE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. THE SCARY THING, I CHECKED THE OIL PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE TSB IN APRIL 2015 AND THE OIL DIDN'T REGISTER ON THE DIP STICK?? I PUT IN 3 QUARTS OF OIL TO BRING IT UP TO FULL. THIS IS NOT TOYOTA QUALITY. IF IT DOESN'T GET REPAIRED AT TOYOTA'S EXPENSE
WE WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER TOYOTA!!!!!!!

This is my 2nd Camry. First one was a 2000 Camry which I drove for more than 500,000 kms and never had any issues with excessive oil consumption. Great car. Then I bought a 2007 Camry with all the bells and whistles, sun roof, leather, heated seats etc and loved the car. Then about a year and a half ago my wife called and stated the oil light went on, pulled into a service station and replaced about 2 1/2 litres of oil. Started checking more regularly and sure enough was going through what I considered a lot of oil.
Complained to dealership when oil change was due and they stated they could add a supplement to the vehicle which sometimes helps, did this on 2 occasions but not much better. They then suggested I switch to 10/30 oil from 5/20. did so and it seemed to do a bit better, but I was required to have a jug of oil in my trunk at all times in order to keep it topped up.
Then a few months ago got letter from Toyota stating I could have an oil test if I felt it was burning excessive oil. Had test done and went through 1 3/4 litres in 2000. was told they would do paper work and send to Toyota, had no idea, what they might do or not do, had no idea when I might hear from them if at all. I had to ask questions just to get that much feedback. Felt that they either do not plan to fix it or if they are what they plan to do. I am hopeful of a successful resolution to this issue. If not, my next car will not be a Toyota.

I realized the excessive oil consumption of my Toyota Camry 2007 on 8/4/2014, when I had the oil change. Since then, I had to add 1 bottle of engine oil every month. The dealer asked me to take the oil consumption test, and my car failed the test. Until now, there was no fix from Toyota. Toyota is not as reputable as it claimed, I am not going to buy any other vehicle from Toyota.

Just want to add my complaint to all the others. Our Camry has been burning excessive oil for a long time and we got a oil consumption test done which led to a letter from Toyota saying we were eligible for an extended warranty service fix. We booked an initial appointment with a dealership and shortly afterwards the appointment was cancelled because they "didn't have enough parts". It's now been another two months and no word from them. This is unacceptable service.
