i change my oil every 3000 miles. Yet in between oil changes I was adding approximately a qt of oil every thousand miles. I received a notice from Toyota stating that there was an oil consumption issue with many Toyotas including my year make and model. On 3/30/2015 I brought my vehicle to Manfredi Toyota in Staten Island NY for an oil consumption test at which time they told me I did not qualify for the repair of this issue. They said adding a qt of oil every 1200 miles is "normal". I have owned many vehicles including Toyotas and this is not "normal".

We started the oil consumption test a few weeks before the warranty ended, therefore we were eligible to get it fixed free if it failed. Unfortunately our 19 year old son, who is now driving the car, went past the test range of I believe 1100 -1300 by 200 miles. Toyota dealership told us it used two quarts of oil but considering we went an extra 200 miles our test was not valid and now we were past our warranty period which makes us not eligible for the warranty work so re-testing wouldn't help up. What a jerk of a company. By the way I'm the one who changed the oil and filled it up right before the test began. When we got it back home I filled it back up and it took exactly 3 quarts not 2. How would they know precisely how much oil when they don't fill it back up and the oil is not even touching the dipstick?

Camry LE 2.4L

I have just purchased the car one month ago as a preowned one. After about 15 days the oil lid turned on. I filled in the car with an original oil. I checked the oil stick after I left the car for 4 hours and it was at the max level. Two weeks later, I checked again the oil in the car using the oil stick and it was below min tick. I have already replaced the valve gasket cover but the same issue still there. By the way, the car doesn't show any black or blue smoke in the exhaust and there is no sign of oil leak on the engine outside body. The car is no longer on warranty. I am frusterated and I don't know what to do!.

Camry CE 2.4L

Around 115K miles, I took my Camry into my mechanic for an oil change. This was my usual routine of having my oil changed around 3000-3500 miles. This car has been maintained like this since we purchased it new in 2007. My mechanic came out of the garage and said, "There was no oil when we went to drain the car for your oil change. What have you been doing with the car since last time?" Nothing, absolutely nothing. We thought this was some weird mistake but he cautioned me to check my oil regularly. I'd check around 1500 miles and find my oil level down 1 -1 1/2 quarts. My mechanic and myself continued to watch this and he tried valiantly to figure out some reason for the problem. Finally II went online and found that this is a problem reported by many Toyota owners.

So I called Herb Chambers Toyota, where we'd purchased the car. They informed me that there was a process I would need to submit to to prove that this problem existed. they also warned me that if my car did indeed have this problem it could take days to weeks to remedy and that it might take weeks to have it corrected because I would be put on a waiting list. Hmmm...this is a BIG deal and must be costly to them. The procedure was as follows: Hand your car over to us, our service dept will fill your oil so that it is at the full line on the dip stick. Toyota will seal the cap of the oil tank so it can't be messed with. My job was to drive my car and bring it back to them no sooner than 1100 miles and no later than 1200 miles. At that point I hand my car over to them again, they add a quart bottle of oil to my engine and then note the oil level on the dip stick. All of this happens out of my sight. If the dipstick reads at the full line or over Toyota regards this as Falling within normal limits and my car is regarded as OK.

I was confident that my car would definitely fail the test. Imagine my surprise when the service person told me that after adding the quart of oil my oil level on the dipstick was a smidge above the line, therefore within normal limits!!! I asked them, incredulously, "So, my car needed a quart of oil after 1200 miles and you believe that is an acceptable usage of oil in a Camry?!?" I was told yes. I got angry and was then told I could appeal by having my engione tested one more time- I would have to wait until I'd put at least 6000 miles on my car- AND, if it was within the limit on this 2nd test I would no longer be able to ask for them to fix the problem.

I'm getting ready to have the 2nd test done and am infuriated that this car- maintained scrupulously since purchase- is going to be "OK" according to Toyota and I will be expected to carry oil with me all the time and regularly add a quart of oil every 1000 miles I drive! This is the first time I ever bought a Toyota and never had these issues with previous Hondas or Subarus with 2X the mileage this Camry is at!

I am the owner of a 2007 Camry. I brought my car in to Toyota since I had received a notice for motor oil burning and was informed that I needed to come back after I had gotten an oil change so they could measure the oil content to which I complied. After Toyota supposedly did an assessment; I was told by that my car was indeed burning oil but not enough to rectify the problem. I brought my car back a second time to Toyota and was given the same excuse and was sent along my way.

Some time later after I had started driving Uber; I brought my car for an oil change and was informed that my oil content was almost bone dry which means that my engine head could have cracked. I immediately took my car to back Toyota showing them the notes that were written by the technician and was told that in order for them to even look at my car; I had to fix a gasket problem that has now arisen.

It appears that this is a game that Toyota is playing with its customers because I have been told by other Toyota car owners that they have gone through the exact same thing with Toyota claiming that their cars are not burning enough oil to avoid honoring their manufacturing issue.

Toyota has a recall on a number of vehicles because of a piston ring design flaw. Last year they tested my 2007 Camry and said it was OK. Actually, it burned 1 quart of oil (I just found out from customer care) but Toyota says it must burn 1.5 quarts of oil to qualify. I was told that the car was OK. My oil light went on less than 2000 miles in to my last oil change. The car was 3 quarts low on oil! The dealership says that it definitely has the design flaw--but they have to run another test to verify what I have told them. Now here is the zinger---I have one week to drive 1100 miles. That is because Toyota has said this recall ends then. Somehow I am responsible for their engineering design flaw, their inability to diagnose my vehicle the first time, and their unilateral setting of an expiration date. I do not believe that this is fair or reasonable. Perhaps they will see the light or extend the final date for me? I cannot drive 1100 miles this week. I would if my schedule allowed it.

DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!!!!!!

Toyota really let me down on this one! My car failed the oil consumption test miserably in April 2016, I was told my car used 3 quarts of oil in 1156 miles and I qualified for the engine rebuild kit, which was ordered at that time and was told it should be in within 90 days it is on back order. Fast forward to June 17 and my car breaks down due to overheating for low oil, (I had just added 2 quarts 9 days before this happened) which I had to practically add oil at every gas fill up. So I have my car towed to the Toyota dealership since their suppose to be repairing it anyway.

August 5 2016 I get the call that the parts come in and they'll start working on it that day and it should be ready for me to pick up the following Tuesday. 3 weeks pass and I finally get a hold of the shop manager who informs me that my engine can not be repaired due excessive damage from overheating. (due to their acknowledged problem!) and now he says that Toyota is not willing to cover any cost in replacing my engine. However, they did offer me a "great deal" (as he called it) they could get me a used engine with 55000 miles for $3600 and put it in for additional $3800!!! They honestly thought I was ignorant enough to fall for that. $7400 for a used engine!!! I don't think so.

So I tell him, No thanks, I'll just have my car towed home and will figure something out, that's when he told me I owe $1800 before I can even pick up my car with a blown engine!!! I asked what that price was for and he said for the labor to tear the engine down. Well excuse me, you had to tear it down in order to replace the "recalled parts" that your now saying is useless but you want me to pay for that labor now? Again, I don't think so!

He tried to tell me I gave authorization for the cost to begin, which is definitely a lie, Thank goodness I have all calls recorded! After a conference call with the GM of the dealership and them unsuccessfully locating my "authorization", I was called this morning and was told I can now have my car picked up with only the $99 diagnosis fee to be paid.

I plan on having my car towed out of there in the morning! And will never buy another Toyota again! I would like to find a great attorney that would take this case to a Class Action level being how there are thousands of complaints about this same problem. I feel sorry for the people who fell for the scam and ended up paying for the "recall" themselves.

At first when I bought my car i was really happy with my toyota, after a couple of months when it marked that i needed an oil change i went ahead and did an oil change, a month later the Oil Pressure light came on and i checked it and the car had literally NO OIL, so i took it to toyota service department and they just told me to add oil and they started an oil consumption test and it failed even tho they saw that the car had no oil, i took it many times and it always failed and I'm tired of having to spend extra money adding Oil to my car just to keep the oil level good before it catches on fire or something, I'm really disappointed and will never buy a toyota again.

I had someone leave a message on my vm today to tell me that if I would like to bring my car there every time I need to top off my oil until my part comes in then they would do it for free until the part comes in, as if that is doing me a favor. I have been waiting for a part for my car since March and I feel like they should have a plan in place if you are still waiting over the original quoted time. Yes they said that they can help me with the trouble with my car but the trouble that I am having has to do with the part that is needed. The only thing I keep being told is that I can call corporate office and when I call corporate office they tell me call the dealership and the last time I called they left me on hold. Some has to be held accountable. I really just want to drive the car that I paid for. I am feeling totally defeated especially when I inboxed them on facebook and whomever manages it just kept going back and forth with me repeating the same thing. I would take it to another dealership however I would have to start the process all over again and that would put it almost a year that I still have not had the part. I am in the process of seeing if I can contact an attorney to see what action I can take because this is unacceptable. It seems like I can only be viewed as frustrated(which I have the right to be) by them. I just want my car to work properly and someone to be held accountable.

I received a notification from Toyota that there might be problem with excessive oil consumption with my 2007 Toyota Camry and if that is indeed the case they would repair. It required a test first. The test was for me to drive 1200 miles after an oil change. I already knew I was having to add a 1/2 quart every 600 miles because I kept a log after I received the notice from Toyota. After the oil change I drove the 600 miles and came back for the test results. To my utter shock I was told the oil was full. When I looked at dip stick after I got the car, the oil level was down about 1/4 quart from full line. In my opinion, either the mechanic is incompetent or they are lying to me for it is impossible if I was adding 1/2 every 600 miles that it would be lower than full.

Since that test, I topped off the oil and drove 1200 miles without adding any oil. When I checked the level at this point, the stick barely showed any oil. It was at the lowest point. I photographed the odometer and dipstick. I'm going to have the test done again at the next oil change but before hand I will speak to the service manager.

I have to add a quart of oil every 1,000 miles at the minimum. I drive about 150 miles a day so having to add oil on a weekly or bi-weekly process. It is getting costly and if i go to long will create serious engine problems. This is obviously a problem that is experienced by many and should be fixed at the expense of Toyota. I noticed my car started burning oil even after changing its oil. The oil lamp would come on and sure enough the oil was low. This has been going on for a couple of years now.

I took the vehicle to Toyota dealership and it failed the oil consumption test. I was told they were going to order the parts and call me within two weeks, it's been at least a month and I haven't heard back from them.

Now in addition to that, the vehicle is making a loud sound (the engine used to be noiseless) and also shakes. I used to own Hondas for years and decided to switch to Toyota because they were prettier looking to me. BIG mistake.

I will never ever purchase another Toyota. It's been nothing but problems ranging from broken sun visor hinges, glove compartment will not shut and it will be off its rails, cracks on top of the arm rest, doors that will not unlock with the remote nor from the inside (I have to manually unlock the driver's side door with my key and reach over to unlock the passenger door), and now the freaking engine. I am beyond pissed.

Once I noticed excessive oil consumption in the latter part of 2015, I had Toyota do their testing in January 2016. They said it was not enough consumption to qualify for a remedy. Now it is using more than a quart of oil per 1000 miles. On June 16, 2016, Toyota said they could do the testing again after six month and only after the oil pan gasket is replaced.
