car driving down road; starts to shake; no check engine light ever came on; no oil was in cylinder; just had changed about a month ago; talk to a mechanic about problem; he said there was a recall on that problem on the 07 camry; never received any notification from dealer of any problem; second toyota purchase; first time this problem has ever happened.

The car was checked for an oil recall and was fine. However, not a year later it runs out of oil often and finally the problem with the engine. The engine is knocking and I am sure it is because the oil has to be checked weekly due to the oil leak and excessive use of oil and it was driven 2 hours and the engine is knocking.

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry that uses oil and has a knock in the engine. I took it to the Toyota dealership and they told me that it was normal for the Camry to use oil. I am afraid to drive the vehicle. It's a shame that there are people with the same complaint and Toyota has not offered to recall the Camry. I had the oil consumption test done and it did not pass. I was told the problem was mine to deal with. I am sure this will be a very expensive fix. We have 2 Toyota vehicles in which 1 is a 1993 and it does NOT use oil like the 2007. I have parked the 2007 Camry! Toyota step up and fix the problem for your customers. If Toyota knows that it is a problem then they should do a total recall and fixed the problem!

Our vehicle engine started knocking. We took it into Napleton multiple times early for oil changes and all they would tell me is the engine oil levels were low. Now my car is not drivable. How long do these complaints need go before anything is done. How is it that I have a 2000 Dodge Neon that still runs on original engine and has over 200,000 miles. I also have a Toyota corolla that has been nothing but trouble. Not to say car is a 2010 and could not be driven because I would loose power while driving and that was so call fixed after spending over 1,200 dollars since dealer kept mis-diagnosing the issue.

About 3-4 years ago, the car started to make noise while in park or when stopped at a light. At the same time I noticed that it was time to change the battery. So when I did that and the noise was still there, I brought it into Arlington Toyota In Jacksonville for them to see what it was. I received a call stating that the reason for this shake/noise was due to the battery being changed. At that point I was SPEECH-LESS.

They said they had to re-set the computer. They did that and I picked up the car. About 2 weeks later the same noise returned and I called Arlington and they said would have to bring it back in. So once again I took it back in and they said they could not duplicate the noise. So I picked it back up and what a surprise, the noise was back.

I called again and had 1 of their mechanics take a ride with me to have him determine what is causing the noise. He said that it was the motor mounts and they need to be replaced. So I left the car and not only did they change the motor mounts, but came up with the car needed an alternator & a water pump. So about $2,500.00 later I thought my noise was gone. But since I am writing this letter, it has been close to 3 years with the same noise.

Now they are telling me that they can not fix the problem since it is out of warranty. WELL, it was not out of warranty when I first brought the car in 3 years ago. Called their Corporate office and no surprise to me got the Corporate run-around that they could not do anything & I needed to talk to the service manager at Arlington, where I started 3 years ago.

I got my 2007 Camry LE from my father about 6 months ago with 77,000 mi.on it. The car has been serviced by Toyota at every service mileage required. Not once have they told him his oil was low or that he was burning excessive oil between oil changes. I assume that was because he was still under warranty. He's 82 years old, and I feel completely negligent, not telling him to check his oil between changes, knowing full well about the defective piston rings.

I received the car knowing he always takes the car in for all required maintenance. He is clueless about any excessive oil consumption and so am I. I put less than 2000 miles on the car and I hear tapping in the engine. There's nothing to lead me to believe the oil is low. No oil light, but I check it. No oil on the stick, I put two quarts in, still no oil on the stick, I put two more quarts in. So obviously the car burned four quarts in about five thousand miles. The tapping is getting worse and I feel Toyota is completely responsible for the damage being caused to this motor. After learning what know now, I feel they are criminally liable for their lack of informing my father about the oil consumption problem.

Update from Aug 6, 2015: Took my Camry in to Toyota to have the engine oil consumption test perfomed. My car burned at least 4 quarts in4,000 miles. I drove the 1,200 miles to see how much oil it burned. They said it only burned a half a quart of oil, and therefore didn't qualify to have the repairs done. I raised hell, so I left and drove the next 1,200 miles . Well guess what, it burned a quart and a half, in those miles, just like it did , before the oil test. That leaves only one possible explanation for the discrepancy, they over filled it, so it wouldn't qualify for the repairs. So with paper work in hand, returned to Toyota and quite frankly accused them of rigging the test and commiting fraud. Well the service guy heard what I said and i wasn't being quiet, immediatly went and got a big boss. After showing him the paper work and the oil stick, he said as soon as the parts to fix it came in, he would do another test and make sure that it would go my way this time. Why would he say such a thing if the test wasn't rigged?

I only use Mobil 1 for engine oil. I change my oil religiously. I planned on driving this car till it had 300,000 miles on it. Not anymore...

I was entering a freeway on-ramp and all of sudden I hear my valves knocking. It sounded as though thousands of hammers were banging on my engine. No apparent reason.

Took the car to two different shops and they both stated that the engine needs to be replaced. The cost to replace is $3-6,000 just for the engine. They stated that the valves are shot and they also hear something at the bottom of the engine. Both stated it was best to buy a used engine. Unbelievable...

9/11/2013 my 2007 Camry VVTI 2.4L after the picking up my girlfriend from work, she notice a sound coming from the engine . So I had to drive her to her "Radiation" treatment and heard the noise myself. So after her treatment was completed, I'd drove her back to work and I came straight home and pop the hood open and heard the (Tacking-tapping) sound. So turn the engine off and checked to dip-stick and found it bone dry. So I added 3 1/2 quarts oil 5W-20 and the sound was low and not so disturbing head-ache. My maintance light came on when engine started and then goes off.

On Friday, 9/13 the sound of the tacking-tapping was still there, so there was no driving and took the car in on Sat. 9/14 to Jiffy Lubes to an oil-change. They'd change the oil and added NEW oil, left Jiffy Lube once it was completed. drive around and seen my friend for some auto concern. He checked out the oil dip stick and saw "NO-OIL" in the oil-pan, so he stated that I should take it to Toyota Servco Auto Service Center Kaimuki.

Well after leaving my friend place and started driving back on the freeway. The car started to spuddered and then died on the freeway. I couldn't start the car, the battery was dead. I had to call a tow-truck (ALLSTATE AUTO INSURANCE) and have it towed to Kaimuki Servco Center. The assistance manager was assisting me and said that I first need to replace the car battery. Well that battery was the original Toyota battery that cost me $170.00 and then needed to have them do a Initial Diagnestic test that will cost me $220.00. I got to say this, I hadn't seen the oil-light come-on, the only light that came on was the "Service-Light", that's why I took it in for service. The car only have 52,491 miles on 9/14/13 after Jiffy-Lubes service and Jiffy-Lube service History 04/12/13 at 47,792 miles. This car has no oil leaks and no problem till NOW> NEED HELP, LAWSUIT?

It's really terrible.The engine sounds like there is a spanner in it and could crack open if not immediately switched off.But when "revved" up the engine sound turns normal.It's quite embarrassing and disgraceful.
