I bought a 2007 Camry hybrid from autoland (springfield, NJ) in 2007, VIN [xxx]. recently I was in an auto accident (August 25, 2010) in which I hit a car in front of me. I don't have the exact speed of the impact but I would estimate it was 25-35 mph. The resulting impact resulted in a total wreck of the car (photos available). However, the airbag did not deploy despite the force of the impact being substantial enough to total the car. I was injured in the accident, with injuries which include a cut on the forehead from hitting the windshield and neck soreness. The car was recently serviced by Toyota, so teh the airbag system should have operated properly. Records available from the dealer. I was the only person in my car. No one else was injured. My insurance company suggested I contact Toyota, I had a very hard time reaching them and they do not have a email or web based way of filing these issues. When I finally spole to a representative, they claimed that the aribag functioned as designed. Apparently the rate of deceleration is factored into decision to deploy. I was breaking for about one second when I hit and despite my velocity at impact ( 25 to 35 mp), the fact that I was slowing down was a decision factor not to deploy. I am an engineer and quite frankly I am surprised with this criterion for deployment. The person on the phone at Toyota could not elaborate further. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

2007 Toyota Camry. Consumer states unintended acceleration caused a rear end collision. Consumer states airbags did not deploy. The consumer stated her daughter was the driving the vehicle. When she removed her foot from the brake to proceed once the light turned green, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer. One week after the accident, a recall was issued regarding the all weather floor mats. The consumer went to the dealer to have them inspected, but was told the mats in the vehicle were not a part of the recall.

Vehicle accident involving my daughter driving her 2007 Toyota Camry the Camry sustained major front end damage and was salvaged a total loss by her insurance company. Her estimated speed on impact was 35-40 mph and none of her airbags deployed. After researching is issue I discovered that there are hundreds of complaints of this same issue regarding Toyota vehicles listed on the consumers reports website and surely hundreds more listed in other areas. The majority of the posts I have read all have the same issue regarding the lack of concern by Toyota.

In 2007, I purchased a new 2007 Toyota Camry from tejas Toyota in humble, tx. On or about August 18, I got my vehicle serviced at the dealership. They performed a multi-point inspection, oil change, tire rotation, and checked fluids. Vehicle was rendered in good working condition. Approximately one week later, while approaching an intersection in downtown houston, I saw the vehicle in front of me begin to come to a stop. I saw the light turn red and I had plenty of room to stop. I applied the brake, but nothing happened. My tires did not squeal, my car did not decelerate at all, but I did not spin or veer off in any direction. I almost attempted to go around the vehicle stopped in front of me, however, that would have left me in the middle of oncoming traffic in an intersection. I knew that could result in a possibly worse situation, so I held down the brakes and just prayed that my vehicle would stop. As a result of this vehicle failure, I hit the vehicle in front of me directly in the rear end of their Mercedes Benz SUV. Strangely, my airbags did not deploy. This too greatly concerns me. Luckily no one was seriously hurt, however, it caused approximately $9,000 in damage to my vehicle and I have medical bills over $600. My car was fixed! ridiculous! unfortunately, now I am scared to drive my vehicle and I cannot recover my damages from my insurance company.

I was a passenger in my car and my boyfriend was driving on the highway 101 (northbound) in san francisco and were struck by another vehicle from the rear about 20-30 mph. Neither airbag went off from the collision, causing me to hit my head on the dash and my boyfriend hitting his legs on the dash and steering console. The airbag light is on indicating it was deployed and the repair shop is informing us that it has to be replaced.

Airbag failure - 2007 Camry le. I bought this car new due to its airbag safety claims - 7 airbags with one to protect the driver?S legs. None deployed. I traveled on the highway 50-55 mph, a safe distance from the car (BMW) in front of me at rush hour on a sunny dry day. A car cut in front of the BMW causing it to brake instantly, almost coming to a stop. Deceleration was too quick. I went straight into the BMW at full speed. There was no time to hit my brakes. My car didn't"T swerve or dive. I wore my seatbelt but leaned forward slightly while firmly in my seat. My chest struck the steering wheel causing an inward displaced spiral fracture of my sternum. I also sustained a large groin bruise with an internal blood clot and chest bruise due to the seatbelt. Immediately I had difficulty breathing, got out of my car, lied on the pavement to catch my breath. Police/ambulance came quickly, provided oxygen, took me to a hospital. I remained in intensive care for 2 days. The insurance inspector & body shop investigated the car and were surprised the airbags didn't't deploy and couldn't find a reason why the airbags didn't deploy given the damage. The right airbag sensor was bent. My car was deemed totaled. I"M unable to return to my previous work schedule (long hours, intense workload) due to constant pain. I missed 2 weeks of work. Due to the fracture I cannot drive for 6 weeks. I requested that Toyota evaluate the car to determine if it was a vehicle-specific defect or the entire line (to prevent future injuries). Instead of disassembly and computer analysis, Toyota only reviewed photos and said it functioned as expected." The vehicle was totaled and the impact straight on and high speed. If not sufficient to activate the airbags, then what's their purpose? the vehicle is in storage for examination. Police reports and photos available. I would greatly appreciate NHTSA's response to this report.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact's wife was forced off the road by another vehicle while driving approximately 35 to 40 mph. She lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wall of a house. The driver side air bag failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The manufacturer was notified and a report was filed; however, they stated that there was no recall for the 2007 Toyota Camry air bag. They further stated that the air bag did not deploy because the air bag sensor was not struck. The driver suffered injuries to her neck, back, and feet. The killeen police department filed report number 08-1463. The failure mileage was 1,100.

One car accident. Front end shimmy led to an uncontrollable spin in right lane of highway (62-63 mph in a 65 zone, road dry, no sand, ice, water, oil), spun into left guardrail, bounced off and hit right side guardrail head on 45-60 mph. Front/knee airbags did not deploy, seatbelt caught too late, leading to driver (only person in car) hitting head on steering wheel and knee on center console. Injuries include concussion, whiplash, right knee/hip pain/damage, headaches, backaches, dizziness, neck/back soreness, forgetfulness following accident (random short term memory loss). Car totaled (front end destroyed, other damage), problem reported to Toyota. Toyota rep appeared to be trying to blame driver on airbag/seatbelt failures but is sending investigator to check auto. Insurance company has inspected vehicle. Driver not ticketed by police (deemed not at fault for accident).
