This problem just came about last year and I have been trying to resolve it since then. All of a sudden the dashboard had around 100 tiny cracks - it looked like slits in it - and the whole dashboard was covered in a sticky glue like substance. As recently as last week the Assistant service manager told us it was a DEFECT when the car was made and to take it up with the Toyota corporation. I did once again, and they still refuse to fix it. How can a company not stand behind these very expensive, DEFECTIVE cars?

Camry LE 4s

Toyota dealer, Eastern Shore Toyota where I purchased the car keeps putting me off, saying they can not get part. I am sure if it were a wreck or a self pay they would get it. This is a recall issue and they will not do anything.

With less than 50,000 miles, the dashboard is melting and has cracked. The dealership tells me the only "fix" for the problem is a new dashboard which will cost approximately $1,200 plus labor. It concerns me greatly because the 'melting' dashboard creates a reflection in the windshield which prohibits visibility creating a driving hazard. Also, how is the cracked dashboard affecting the air bags? Will they deploy at random causing a wreck?

Why isn't Toyota doing something about this problem? I have been a loyal Toyota customer for years but this has soured me on them. I'm nervous now when I have to drive this vehicle because of the way the sun reflects off the melting dash!

Camry L 2,4

I own a 2009 Camry and have noticed for some time that the dash had been getting sticky and extremely soft to the touch. Earlier this year I noticed a strand of hair laying on the dash I reached up to sweep it off with my finger because of the softness my fingernail literally scratched a hole into the dash. Just yesterday I had laid papers on the dash when I parked my car at work, when I reached up to get them my finger glazed over the dash and left a large cut in the dash. I have noticed several other nicks around the steering wheel most likely from tapping on the dash when listening to music or merely turning the wheel and my fingers grazing the dash. There is no excuse for a dash to become so soft to leave cuts, nicks and gouges. I can assure you my nails are kept short and rounded definitely not like knives but to look at my dashboard you would think someone took a knife to it.

i first mentioned the problem to the dealer south dade toyata dealer. they instructed me that i was using amorall to clean which was the problem. i appected it because i had used amorall ONCE. i later dediced it could not have been the amorall because the problem was getting worse without anything beinhg done to it. the dashboard is made out of a coushing material which can be easily bruised. i am a loyal toyata purcher. NEVER have i seen anything like this before. this is my fourth toyata vehicle. but because of the run around that i have been getting from the dealer and FIDELITY warranty.this will be my last purchase.
