My son is getting his doctorate in immunology, and he agrees that dangerous phthalates are being inhaled from my horribly sticky and shiny dashboard. Also, it leaves a residue on the edge of the window shade which gets onto the windshield when I remove and insert it. So now the windshield is a smeary mess, too.

Update from Sep 10, 2016: Just made an appointment, and was told it will take 8-12 months to arrive! And they said there is no interim fix to keep from breathing in the phthalates.

http://www.breastcancerfund.org/clear-science/radiation-chemicals-and-breast-cancer/phthalates.html

I may go ahead and get tested to see if any elevated phthalate level is in me. I eat very little canned food, and carefully watch what health/ cosmetic products I use.

I have tried EVERYTHING! I had to take my pets to the vet and now my dash is covered in PET HAIR that I can't get off because every time I touch my dash it looks like I gouged it! It really sucks and it's so embarrassing. I know I've put a lot of miles on my car because I commute an hour each way to work everyday but, this is just NOT normal and I'm am thoroughly disappointed in Toyota. :(

I understand that Toyota has authorized an extension of the warranty to cover this problem - but has not sent any notices to the owners. Nice company. We own (2) Toyotas & my daughter owns (2) Lexus cars.

I notified the dealer and got put on the list in September, 2015. I still have not been notified to it replaced. The dashboard finish has come off in several spots, and is really ugly. The worst problem, though, is that it is so shiny, that when it's really sunny out, it's hard to see - scary when you're hurtling down the highway at 6 mph. Also, I live in sunny south Florida. Unsat Toyota!

For some reason my clock in the dash board is not working. I'm not sure if it melted. I went to change the time the button is struck.

We got a letter from Toyota about cracked and sticky dashboards. When it gets hot, the dash on my Camry is very sticky to the touch. It feels like soda spilled on it. When it cools (or at night) the dash feels normal. I am still waiting to hear from the dealership on having this replaced. The letter stated that Toyota should be able to start repairs in Spring 2015 - here it is Fall 2015 and no replacement yet!!

Got to love a dealership brush-off!!! This car has been a nightmare with the dash problem and the excessive oil consumption.

This is becoming a really hazardous problem. With most angles of the sun reflecting the bright melted dashboard it can easily cause an accident.

Dashboard has finder nail imprints above the steering wheel where my wife's hand normally sits while driving or turning the steering wheel. I take very good care of our vehicles and this dashboard is made of a material that will melt under temperatures that are above 90@ outside causing dashboard temps to be higher. I called Cavender Toyota were we bought this car in San Antonio, but always get the same answer..."We know about the problem, but are waiting on the parts". This has been for over a year.

The Aux,Cigarette Lighter/ Chargers - None of them work! They short out. The lid to the cigarette lighter broke off from dry rot. That melting dashboard though. They blamed me saying,"I sprayed a cleaner on it. That caused it to to that!" WOW

When I first got the car I thought my dashboard just had a glossy look from being cleaned but after having the car noticed that it remained that way so when I tried cleaning I noticed that everything was sticky and stuff was sticking to the dashboard bc it was melting ... I called the dealership but was told that there was nothing they could do and that the warranty wouldn't cover it. After a while I started having trouble with my CD player and the aux ...... Sometimes it won't released or take the cd and the aux will not work at times .... And when it does you can mash the volume button and it would change it from back to radio or cd

I feel if I'm paying my hard earned money for it I should be able to enjoy what I'm paying for without having to worry about how much worse it's going get or what's gonna happen if my dashboard continues to melt and stuff like bugs stick to it, and if I'm going to have to replace my CD player and aux system.
