In our 2009 Toyota Camry, there was a temporary dash replacement program. It was considered a warranty extension as opposed to a recall and it was a limited time where owners could take the vehicle back to the dealership and have it repaired during that limited time spa. I purchased the vehicle this past year and upon purchasing and spending a summer in san antonio with my 2009 Toyota Camry I experienced what the dash recall/Toyota replacement policy was intended to repair. The dash turns to mush in the heat and it is very, almost malleable. From a safety standpoint, it creates a glare that makes it impossible to see from the drivers point of view and furthermore there's been reported problems with the airbags deploying because of the melting dash. I spoke with Toyota about possibly helping me repair my dash and they said that even though it is a safety concern that they are no longer responsible for repairing the manufactures damages. I wanted to file a claim for reconsideration in hopes that they would be liable for replacing anything that could potential he be a hazard or a danger to my family.

I own a 2009 Camry le. The material that covers the dashboard is sticky and peeling off. This has been happening since 2018. When the sun shines the light reflects and is very distracting while driving. Toyota issued a recall for this problem. I called them today (1/27/20) but they say it is now expired. I am wondering how this can be addressed for my vehicle since I never got the original paperwork because I moved. Please advise. Thanks in advance, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have been the sole owner of this Camry. Back in 2015 I took it to a dealership for service and brought up to the technician that the dashboard was sticky. At the time they said there was nothing I could do about it and replacing it would cost me a lot of money. Now 4 years later I find out that there was a warranty enhancement that covered the dashboard. My dashboard is now so sticky that it is glistening. I tried to use a sun visor hoping it would slow the rate of melting but then my sun visor would stick to the dashboard. I place a hat on the dashboard once for 10 minutes and when I removed it there was black residue. Finally, I have a child now and when he gets into the car he has put his hands on the dashboard and gotten the black debris and chemicals on his hands and I am now concerned for his health and safety. There was also a warranty enhancement with the oil consumption. My spouse changes my oil for me and over the last several years commented that I was surprisingly very low on oil. I am wondering why I have not received any notice from Toyota for either of these issues even though they claim notices were sent out. I have opened a case with Toyota #1911082336. They tell me that I am out of the window for repair and it would now have to be out of pocket which is very frustrating considering I notified them of the dashboard issue before.

2009 Toyota Camry is burning oil. Toyota did not do a recall or contact the owner that this was a known issue. I am over my "years' but within the mileage. They will not place/rebuild the motor.

My dash is melting. I've never received a recall. It's chipping off and I was told the recall expired. How am I supposed to get it fixed if never a recall. Also my engine has been leaking oil and I've had it serviced properly and in a timely fashion the entire time I've had it. It's the seals that keep leaking. Ive never received any recall information on my Toyota. Ever. So I'm not very satisfied with the notification process. Im attaching pictures of my dash.

Recently 'August 2019' I purchased a 2009 Toyota Camry on a 'cloudy day' for my son to drive to N.C. for college. He came home for an overnight visit and I noticed his dash was very shiny and had a horrible glare. The glare was so bad I would not allow him to drive the car due to this impairing his ability to see. I noticed on Toyota's website there is a recall on the dash but read lots of complaints that Toyota was not replacing them in a timely fashion and for only so many years. As you can see from the photo this is for sure a visibility hazard and my son or others could be killed due to inability to see.

I purchased a new 2009 Toyota Camry SE, after owning ten Toyota vehicles since 1978. I still own four today! I have never experienced anything like this issue in another car. In 2014-2015 (estimated) my entire dash board became sticky, as if I had poured oil on it. Today it releases a thick sticky residue onto the front windshield when parked in the sun. This makes the dash impossible to wipe... as towels, sponges, even leaves, etc., get stuck to it (see pics). I can't drive my car without first wiping the inside of the windshield each time it is parked in the sun, or this residue makes it opaque (see pics...after wiping it). This situation is exacerbated when driving towards the sun (see pics) and is a safety issue!! I'm concerned how the deteriorated condition of my dash affects the deployment of the passenger airbag or if it still even operates correctly? on 8/16/19, I discovered that Toyota extended its warranty to ten years from the original purchase date. Mine was 7/29/09...putting me only two weeks out of their 10-year warranty coverage. Toyota corporate and my dealership told me they could not offer any assistance in my case ("1 day or 1 mile over warranty and we won't help"). when challenged, Toyota could not confirm letters were mailed to all affected owners, only that an effort was made to send letters to some owners in 2015. Multiple models over several years are involved. I spent 8 hours on the phone appealing their decision, without success. A new dashboard costs $2600 (installed)!! I reported this issue here because it is a manufacturing/safety issue resulting from Toyota's use of sub par materials...like defective windshield wipers...if you can't see out of your windshield at freeways speeds because of the glare from your dashboard, or the residue stuck on your windshield...you are at risk of an accident. Please contact me if you have questions?
