Camry SE 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

I bought a 2012 Toyota Camry brand new off the showroom floor and it's been headache after headache. In 2012/2013 I had to deal with a recall and it took a lot of fighting with the dealership to get the work done. I've always had my services done at a Toyota dealership and kept up with the oil changes as appropriate. My Toyota has started to consume oil to the point that I don't make it to 5,000 miles anymore before needing to add oil. My Toyota uses synthetic oil and should last between 8k-10k.. I've been under 5k for two years. The other week my car was sluggish and I pulled over to check the oil and it was bone dry. I started crying. It's so frustrating dealing with this. I'm definitely going to buy a new car but at this point scared to death to purchase another Toyota.

Camry SE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Got a 2012 Camry because they're supposed to last! Noticed when changing the oil more and more missing each time since about 70k miles. It's now at 105xxx and half my oil is missing! Called local dealership and they run my vin and say they have definitely heard of the problem, buy according to my vin, there's nothing they will do! Called and get the same thing from corporate. I will be trading this in and buying another brand, never a Toyota again, and I am letting everybody know not to buy a Toyota. This is a real problem, and them not standing behind it is very crappy. Guess that's the world we live in now...

excessive oil consumption

I had my oil changed at 139,000 miles and I still had 1,000 miles to go before I reached my next 10,000 mile oil change. I had been hearing funny metal like noises under my hood, so my mechanic friend decided to take a look. When he opened the hood and checked the oil on the dipstick, the dipstick was BONE DRY. I couldn't believe it. He tested it 3 times and of all three times, the dipstick was dry. I was so taken aback.

I have always been very diligent in my maintenance at the Toyota dealership by getting routine check-ups and oil changes. I have also owned Toyota's since 1995, and have never had a issue like this before. I contacted the dealership that I had my recent oil changes, explaining that there were no oil leaks where I park my car, nor have I seen smoke from oil leakage.

When I contacted the dealership, they told me to bring the car in and explained that it may be an excessive oil issue. PROBLEM: I live in a completely different state than where I got the oil change. I did not feel comfortable driving my car the 50 miles, so I had it towed to the dealership. They ran checks on my car, looking for engine codes, which they did not find, as well as doing a visual for any leaks. They found nothing. They did a complete oil change and told me to come back in 1200 miles to see if it is in fact an excessive oil consumption issue.

I drive a long way to work daily, have a young child that I drive around daily, and a teenager that just got her license and is driving this car. I now feel very uncomfortable driving this car because of these recent findings.

I have been a repeat Toyota customer, however, with the recent oil issue and other recent problems, I question Toyotas reliability. If my daughter had been driving and the engine locked/failed, she could have caused/been involved in a major accident. The very morning of me finding that there was no oil, my licensed teenager took my younger daughter on errands. It sickens me to think that my car could have malfunctioned and they both could have been seriously hurt or killed. I now feel that this car is extremely unsafe.

Camry XLE 2 T

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

Brought to dealership in Lakewood, NJ. They sealed vehicle to monitor & told me vehicle had not used any oil during test period. Arrived home upon examining dipstick observed vehicle oil had been overfilled by dealer. Car has extended warranty but they are obviously not willing to acknowledge problem so it is worthless! Will probably sell & purchase another make. Very disappointed in Toyota have had other older models that were excellent. This was supposed to be my retirement car.
