problem #11

Camry

  • 8,200 miles
As I drove, I have noticed the delay in acceleration. Despite of me stepping on the gas to speed up to avoid any accident, the vehicle refused to speed up instantly. This has occured when the vehicle is new and my vehicle was brand new at the time of my purchase. Numerous hesitations occured on highway and off highway. It also occured from stop signs and making turns.

The car computer refuses to accelerate properly when needed. When pressing on accelerator to cross busy intersection or from stop light, the exhibited 3-5 seconds of delay, it refuse to pickup speed which could cause a deadly accident! Toyota must recall the cars back and fix this problem before someone died again on the road!!!

The vehicle intermittently hesitates (stalls) at starts and at other times as well. We have notified Toyota of this situation twice. At first this was just a nuisance (shorter hesitations), but now it is happening more frequently and the hesitations are longer leaving us in more precarious situations. When we arrived today I explained the hesitation problem. Some of xxx statements were rather troubling to me: (1) "this is a new system. There is no longer a wire and throttle. You need to learn to re-drive with it." (2) "though we have equipped all Toyota with this new system, this hesitation problem is predominately in Camry." (3) "I have a 15 Toyota avalon and I have been waiting for it to happen to me. It has not happened yet." (4) "if the computer engine light is not on, then your car is operating within spec. There is nothing wrong with your system." (5) "new Camry have a lot computers and you need to allow all the interfaces of the all the computers in the vehicle to communicate with one another. This causes some delay." These statements were stated before (1, 2, 4) and after (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) the car was inspected. I told xxx repeatedly that this was our second visit to germain to report the problem and that this hesitation may cause us to have an accident. Xxx kept insisting that it was not Toyota's / computer's fault, that we just needed to learn to re-drive the car. I disagree that "if the computer engine light is not on, then your car is operating within specs." Toyota needs to acknowledge that computers can break, be loaded with improper information, be set up incorrectly, etc. Something is causing this hesitation "primarily" in Camry! in our opinion, all Toyota Camry with this "new system" should be recalled and this situation addressed immediately. We are hoping that Toyota will do the right thing for all Camry owners.

When accelerating to make a left turn vehicle will sometimes move about 10 feet and then hesitate for 1 to 2 seconds. This is very dangerous when car stops in middle of the road. This is an accident waiting to happen. I have taken car to dealer twice and they say if you don't come to a complete stop the car thinks it is in third gear and computer has to figure out what to do. This is not good because you do not always come to a complete stop......updated 03-03-15 updated 9/21/2017

Owner of 2014 Camry since March 2014.in December 2014 I experience my car having issues every time I will go on reverse it will make a clank noise. The more the car will run the worse the noise got. Finally, I set up time with norwalk Toyota dealership to take my car and get it service and have an inspection. I received the results on 1/13/2015 dealership informed me a claim was filed with Toyota in regards to this and the engineers came to conclusion of repairing transmission. The claim is still under investigation at this moment but I don't feel safe driving this car. I noticed there is 3 recalls which was informed to me but the dealership has only performed one. Very unsatisfied with this vehicle and with Toyota which has not handled the safety precautions that can cause an injury or unsafe of humans driving this make and model.

Camry 4-cyl

Car is stopped on a slight incline with the transmission in drive, A/C is on. Upon releasing brake before placing foot on gas the car will roll backwards. The engine RPM measured at dealer was 640 to 670. A request to increase idle RPM to 700/750 was denied. The answer was confirmed by dealer that RPM is not adjustable. My concern is the possibility of hitting the car behind me or hitting a pedestrian that is between me and the car behind me.

Engine has low (RPM) 650-670 when stopped with brake applied on slight incline when brake is released car rolls backward before gas can be applied. The car directly behind me if too close, can be hit by my car rolling backwards idle RPM should be increased too 750-800 to rectify this problem Toyota said they can not adjust the idle RPM.
