Camry SE 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

When I bought this 2014 Camry SE 2.5Lin Nov. 2016, it had 41000 miles. When it reached 46000 miles, I found engine oil lost half Quart every 1000 miles. Later on, engine oil consumption is getting more and more. When it reached 150000 miles, engine oil lost 1 Quart every 1000 miles. Now it is 230000 miles, engine oil is losing 1 Quart every 800 miles.

I had 2007 Camry LE before, Toyota had a recall due to the excessive oil consumption.

I hope Toyota will has this 2014 Camry SE recall too.

Camry SE 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,097 miles

I am new to this site. I have complained to the dealer about this before. 1 of the times I complained about the noise the car makes on first start up. The mechanic stated that it was low oil and that might be why so they added oil. It did not help that problem. I brought car to to dealer yesterday stated oil was changed 6,000 miles ago and was full. Now oil is in between marks. They stated to me that this is ok there may be some consumption. As long as the light does not come on this is normal. I asked how can this be normal and this is not the first time. They told me they could find no leaks and that some oil consumption is normal. This makes no sense to me. I bought a Toyota thinking there would never be any problems like this. Now I have to be worried about checking my oil on a 3 year old car, and being told it is normal to have oil consumption.

Camry LE 2.4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,136 miles

Is this normal or the signs of something worse to come....I don't know?

My previous 2002 Corolla CE used to burn oil after 6 years, so I decided to monitor my 2014 Camry LE monthly just to keep track.

The car is at 1828km and I've had it about 6 weeks now, so on the first Sunday of each month I would check the oil but I didn't expect to see this much used after a month. Looking at the dip stick where the bottom dot is on the left and the top dot to the right, the oil indicator stick showed over halfway but under 3/4. About one third of oil has been used, but is that normal in a new car?

I would have thought it shouldn't be past the 1/4 mark and if the first servicing isn't till 8000km then the oil will not even be showing on the dipstick. I've written Toyota to see if this is acceptable usage.

Update from Oct 17, 2014: After a couple more months I would like to make note that the oil consumption in the first month or two was due to the engine breaking in period.
