I noticed rattling in engine when started in the mornings. Rattling has progressively got worse. Took the car to the dealership in May 2016. They told us they could not duplicate the noise. I ask the service manager to come outside and I lifted the hood and started the car and let him hear noise. He said all of the Camrys made that sound. I told him the ones I had heard have never made that sound. He told me it was not enough to warrant a repair. I have been a loyal Toyota customer since 1991. This is our 5th Toyota vehicle. Although I had problems with my Tundra transmission I forgave and forgot then purchased 2 more Toyota cars after that. This sound is progressively getting louder and embarassing when I crank my car up.It even rattles now after only sitting 2 hours then cranked up. This needs to be repaired.

The car has rattled at start up for a few thousand miles. At first I figured it was normal noise do to direct injection or the variable valve timing. Turns out its a well known problem with the variable valve timing, at 29,000 miles? That's insufficient testing from Toyota in my book. To fix it (if the replacement cam gears are any better) is $250 each, just for the part for both intake and exhaust sides, then much more for the labor. I'll take 10% less gas mileage and a solid engine any day.
