I was in an accident going approximately 35 mph. The car was deemed a total loss after inspection. There was damage to both left and right bumper, hood and pretty much the entire front of the car crumpled. The airbags did not deploy at all. I believe they failed and should have deployed

The steering wheel clockspring ribbon was worn down in the middle, resulting in an open circuit of the SRS. The wear is between the ribbon and inside wall of the container that houses the ribbon. It appears to be a designing flaw or manufacturing defect. The wear was discovered by tearing down the clockspring unit. Airbag light on the dashboard was lit in November 2023. Replaced the clockspring unit on 2/17/2024. Without fixing the problem, the airbag on the steering wheel does not function when needed.

My mother was in an accident that cost her life. The black box on the car says that there was a malfunction in the power steering that caused the car to pull sharply to the left. This caused her to hit a concrete median at highway speeds where her airbag failed to deploy. Her spine broke in 4 places and suffered 7 broken ribs.

While pulling into my driveway at approximately 0-5 mph I put my foot on the brake pedal to park in front of my garage door/brick wall and I was unable to stop. The pedal went directly to the floor and the car accelerated forward into the brick wall. After hitting the brick wall, the car bounced back off the wall a few inches. All airbags deployed and I became hysterical. The fumes from the air bags were throughout the car. I was screaming and crying at the same time. I was able to put the car into park and found my cell phone on the floor which fell from my purse and called 911. I was unable to reach the door handle to get out of the car. I was able to open the sun roof and started screaming for help. After a few minutes my neighbor came running and opened the driver's door from the outside and I slid out under the airbag and dropped to the cement on my behind.

The air bag readiness light on your vehicle illuminates when the key is in the on position and the engine is running, which is intended indicate a possible problem with the air bag restraint system. This could be an unsafe condition for the driver and/or front passengers in the vehicle. We recommend you refer to the owner's manual for information on the air bag readiness light and contact qualified technician to correct the system to manufacturer's specification. (the above statement was printed on my nys inspection certificate). Please let me know if this is a possible recall.

Traveling on sth 13 in Iowa. Dog ran in front of me and I could not avoid him. All 11 air bags deployed. Car was immobilized in the middle of the road blocking one lane and partially the second. Doors could not be opened and car could not be moved. We were near a MINImart and two gentlemen ran down and opened the drivers door from the outside. He then used his knife to puncture the air bag my side and cut it off so I could get out. We then went to the passenger side and opened the door for my wife. She was able to slide under the air bag once the door was opened. I then got back in the car and people who had stopped managed to push the car off the road. Air bags did not deflate even after several hours, contact with dog did minor damage to the car. Grill was loose and front bumper skin needed to be replaced. Air bag costs were over $20,000. Car was totaled by insurance company...my wife was hit in the face with an air bag causing a split lip and a damaged eye. We visited the emergency room and no further treatment was required...when the air bags deployed all vision from the car was blocked. Only the two front air bags deflated, all other air bags stayed inflated for hours. After the minor accident we were left sitting in the middle of a state highway unable to see anything and unable to get out. I would compare it to being blindfolded and left standing in the middle of a busy highway, we were terrified. I feel that the activation of the air bags in the case of minor collision is very dangerous, we have hit animals harder in the past and continued on with our journey. In addition the fact that the air bags did not deflate and left us unable to exit the car is an unacceptable hazard. If people had not been on the scene we could have been left in the middle of the road for hours, unable to see anything....updated 12/16/15 updated 10/3/2017
