Camry Hybrid

  • CVT transmission
  • 157,000 miles

I just had the evaporator replaced because the AC refrigerant was leaking. Apparently this is a common problem with this era Camry. Unfortunately the dash needs to be removed to replace the evaporator, which means that the labor cost is quite high. My normal independent repair guy quoted me $1200 for the job, which sounded about right for a 1-2 day job. I did find a mechanic who fixed it for $550. He works out of his back yard and keeps costs low that way.

If Toyota was going to require that the dash needed to be pulled to do this repair, then it would be nice if they didn't use evaporators that would fail.

Camry Hybrid CA24 Hybrid

I LIVE ON A TROPICAL ISLAND OF PUERTO RICO WHERE THE A/C IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND MY TOYOTA WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE EVAPORATOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M VERY DISAPOINTED WITH MY 2007 HYBRID CAMRY THAT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE MODEL WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW.
