My husband and I were sitting in traffic when we heard a loud explosion. We were shocked to see that our back windshield had literally shattered into a million shards of glass. There were no cracks or chips in the window and we do not believe that anyone shot the window as no evidence was left behind. As we looked at those in the cars around us,everyone looked bewildered. When we began to move forward, naturally the window began to collapse and fall into our back seat. The outside temperature was 55 degrees, the sun was shining and therefore the heated window function was NOT turned on. We drove to a nearby carwash and vacuumed the glass as best we could, as we had a 90-minute drive home. Now that I have had time to reflect on this harrowing experience, I am totally distressed as I play over in my mind what COULD have happened if I was driving down the freeway alone or worse with somebody in the back seat. I believe this is a defect and a problem that TOYOTA should address.

Came out to my car which was sitting in my driveway and noticed my rear window looked odd. When I took a closer look the whole window had cracks all over it, the only thing holding it together was the window tint. I had an auto glass repair service come right out and the repair man said the window exploded. There was no evidence of something hitting the window. I could not imagine if there was no tint and if I had been driving with my son in the back seat when it exploded. After searching the internet and finding I'm not the only one this has happened to I have decided to make a complaint. I paid $250 for a new rear window, not to mention the money I spent to have it re-tinted.
