I was 3 weeks out of warranty for recall. I was never notified about the problem. I just happened to be at a Toyota dealership when I mentioned this issue and was told 'too bad'. Only 3 weeks out and treated like an outcast. Guess who's not getting my business next time around?

just read about a sticky dash recall issue with Toyota. I am the original owner, and never received a letter or other notification regarding a recall.

The dashboard appears to be disintegrating, becoming extremely sticky and very shiny which causes a great deal of reflected sunlight to bounce off the windshield interfering with the driver's vision. A friend with the same model and year has an identical problem. Toyota dealership is familiar with the problem and has offered to replace the dashboard (cost >$1,300.00) but I would have to pay the labor (cost $250.00). A complaint has been filed with Toyota and I am awaiting a response.

Dashboard is melting with or without dashboard cover. Melted surface is shiny so it reflects sunlight onto the windshield causing glare. The sticky melted dashboard seems to be fusing with the airbag cover which could cause the airbag to malfunction. I also wonder if this melting material is releasing any toxic chemicals.

Toyota's melting dashboard is horrendous. It is not just a cosmetic issue, it is a massive safety problem. My dashboard is so shiny that on any day with a mild sun it is hard to see through the windshield. I am extremely worried that it will lead to an accident. Toyota needs to address this problem. It is a major safety issue.
