I've got a Toyota Corolla Hatchback 1989, it has had in the past what the mechanic termed, 'petrol feed' problems in which it would cough and splutter as if blocked. But this hasn't been a problem for about half a year. I have just completed its registration and warrant of fitness, all was fine. But about a day later it cuts off whenever I am not accelerating, the battery does not die and there is no noise as it stops running. It pretty much happens as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator and touch the brakes, whether I'm in first gear or going 100kms. It seems to be leaking minimal oil and has a burning smell to it. Any suggestions that could help me avoid a large mechanic bill would be amazing!
