I've owned this car and also went through two alternators. Installing a new alternator is not the solution to the problem. In this model, the rubber coating on some of the wires shift or downright disintegrate over time rendering the wires exposed to water and other debris which in turn shorts out the system and therefore destroys the alternator.
After my second alternator meltdown, the local mechanic reinforced the wires with black electrical tape in the trouble spots. This problem did not reoccur after that.
