I was part of an accident where the automobile I was in crashed into the car in front of us. We were going at a high enough speed where the air bags should have deployed but did not for a 2005 Toyota Corolla le. The car was totaled but yet, no air bags deployed.

2005 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states air bag failed to deploy during accident. Consumer requests an investigation of 2005 Corolla design flaws. The Toyota responded to the consumer by writing; the accident did not fall within the parameters for deployment. The type of injuries the consumer sustained would not have been prevented by the deployment of the air bag. A broken sternum and rib was a common injury sustained by an occupant when the seat belt locks up and restrains them.

While traveling at 35mph on a 50mph roadway, anticipating to stop or steer off the roadway, my 2005 Toyota Corolla brakes and steering failed despite repeated attempts to stop or steer the vehicle to the soft shoulder to avoid rear ending the vehicle stopped ahead of me. Once I applied my brakes, the steering mechanism became non responsive as though both brakes and steering failed. I watched my vehicle continued on its forward trajectory until it slammed into the rear of the vehicle at the red light. In addition, one would have expected the air bag on this vehicle to deploy at impact at this speed. To my surprise and that of the investigating officer from tampa police department, the air bag did not deploy. Luckily, I was the only one in the vehicle as neither the driver's air bag nor the passenger air bag deployed.

Air bag deployed without cause while driving on the highway. Toyota has not been able to provide a reason as to why this happened and therefore cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. They have do little to address our concerns. They have repaired the air bag, without knowing what created the problem. They have not repaired the numerous other electrical issues we are having with the vehicle since the incident occurred. Getting answers and assistance from Toyota has been a nightmare.

Hi, I see my 2005 Toyota Corolla failed in the government crash compliance test (frontal crash, fmvss208), and passed again with a my 2006 one. I guess that means Toyota updated a part or parts of my 2005 Corolla, but I have never received any recall notice from Toyota.
