Corolla

  • 58,000 miles
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not increase in speed with limited power. The dealer advised that the pedal position sensor was defective. The sensor was replaced. One week later while driving at 70 mph, the failure recurred and the vehicle independently decelerated to 35 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where yet the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer advised the electronic control unit (ECU) was defective and would need to be replaced. The contact stated the ECU was previously replaced less than a year prior to the failure. The ECU was replaced however while leaving the dealer, the check engine warning light illuminated and the failure recurred. The dealer then advised that the failure was caused by the after market security system in the vehicle. The contact had not experienced any failures with the security system since purchasing five years prior to the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000 and the current mileage was 58,022.
