Started car this morning and the check engine light came on. Took to parts store and hooked it up to the computer and found codes (P2401, P043E, P043F, P2402, P2419) everything I have researched comes back to evap canister failure, and possible wiring failure. More research shows these issues causing people getting stranded and others with no problem other then light, and others with a strong gas smell. If this causes a gas smell, then a potential fire hazard is formed.

The check engine light came on. Took it to a mechanic & he said the gas cap wasn't on tight enough. That worked for a couple months before the light came on again. So the next step we replaced the gas cap & a week later it came back on. The mechanic now says it's the fuel tank needs replaced.

Since I have had the car I had an issues. I have changed the transmission twice. It used to blow threw brake pads until I paid to have that repaired. Oil consumption was a quart now my piston isn't working. I called Toyota even about safety bag recall which never got fixed. I was told there were no recalls on my car and everything was fine. When I told about air bag recall I saw on the news I was told they will be sending all the information in the mail. It never came. I would like have my money back. The cost of repairs. I have always bought Toyota. This has been unfair not letting your customer receive the repairs due to them for installing faulty parts. I have done everything and now I need to get a new piston. 02/082020

Fuel tank protector band on the sub assembly rusted and broke off -.the 2 remaining bolts held. If it would have completely fallen off the car behind us could have hit it and we would not be aware that the assembly to protect the fuel tank was missing.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the strap that held the heat shield and the fuel tank fractured. The fuel tank and heat shield were attached to the vehicle by a very small portion of the strap. The contact was concerned that the vehicle would possibly catch on fire or explode if driven over a massive road bump. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine if the failure was caused by a manufacturing defect. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who filed a complaint. The failure and current mileage was 53,138.
