While driving on a regional road I heard a banging noise which I assumed was loose exhaust - turned out it was a loose gas tank as strap had failed and the gas tank was banging on frame . Dealer did a temporary repair as straps were on back order . Turned out there was a number of 07 Corollas waiting on the straps and they were being replaced on a first in / first replaced rotation . My car had the strap replaced 7 weeks later . Reported this problem ( obvious defect in material ) to Toyota Canada asking for compensation but that was refused . I also reported this issue to Transport Canada as a safety defect / issue.

Sounded like the whole muffler system was crashing down. Toyota ordered new straps which took 6 weeks on back order. When I complained at the delay, they told me ten other Corollas were on back order for the same thing.

On repair, the mechanic showed me a small plastic brace (?) had cracked. The new brace was more robust, although I did not see it?
