I bought this car used with 18,000 miles on it in July of 2010. And I have all service done at a Toyota dealer. At 25,975 miles, replaced the front brakes, machined rotors, brake fluid flush, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes(1/28/12). (brake pedal felt soft). At 37,966 miles, replaced the front brakes again(12/21/12). Pads lasted 11,991 miles! at 55,662 miles, replaced the front brakes, machined rotors again(2/20/2014). Pads lasted 17,696 miles! since I do mainly highway driving, I feel that there is a defect associated with the front brake abnormal wear. Also, at 50,548 replaced #2 steering shaft assembly. At, 50,691 replaced alternator. At 55,662 replaced water pump, coolant and drive belt.

2009 Toyota Corolla. Consumer writes in regards to water pump pulley disengagement and need for third set of tires on vehicle. The consumer stated he heard a noise coming from under the hood, followed by a sound of something hitting the highway. He gradually slowed down and pulled to the side of the road, raised the hood and discovered the flywheel for the water pump sitting on top of the engine. He walked back up the highway in an attempt to locate what fell from the vehicle. He gathered what he found and was loose under the hood, and had the vehicle towed to the nearest service center and had a new water pump installed. While at the service center, the brakes were serviced and a new set of tires were recommended because they were cupping. The consumer took the vehicle to another establishment to have the tires inspected. Firestone, informed the consumer the left front and rear tow was out of alignment and they adjusted the left front to correct it, but informed him, they could not make any adjustment for the rear, as there was no guarantee given that the alignment issue was the cause of the cupping. Within a week of having the new water pump installed, the consumer began to hear a clicking sound from under the hood, so he took the vehicle back to the repair shop, to determine the cause of the clicking sound. An inspection revealed the A/C compressor needed to be replaced.

Well, there was a very loud rattle noise when starting engine (cold engine) I took car to puente hills, ca Toyota dealership as they told me it was a camshaft gear assembly known issue in the Toyota 2009. They charged me about $179 for labor as the car was still under warranty. The problem continued and goes away once in a while, but continues after all. I just took car back to same dealer, as they told me that it will cost about $872.15 to fix problem. I would like to know if there's a recall or any other legal remedies I could take in this matter.

I have had this Corolla for about 3 years, average about 700 miles per week - drive it daily. I have had no significant issues with it until the past month or so in which I have experienced two "sudden acceleration" events. In both cases I was traveling at a very low speed, about 10 mph or so in parking lots. While coasting / braking with my foot on the brake pedal, suddenly it was as if the brake pedal turned into an accelerator pedal! I felt all of the back-pressure the brake pedal normally has leave and it went almost completely down to the floor. At the very same instant the engine revved and began to accelerate and the car "leaped" forward. In both cases this lasted only a few seconds then things went back to normal. There were no indicator lights on the panel warning of anything wrong. In both cases my foot was clearly on the brake pedal and nowhere near the accelerator pedal. I visually inspected the floor mat and there was absolutely no interference between it and the accelerator pedal. This car has already had all of Toyota's "recall" remedies applied to it and could be easily ascertained by examining the maintenance records at butler Toyota of macon, Georgia. I would like it if someone could examine the car's computer (not the Toyota people for obvious reasons)to see if these events were recorded or not. Until now I have liked this car very much in every way. However, considering all of the recent reports and now my personal experiences twice I am very much concerned about the car's safety.

2009 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states issues with screeching noise the consumer stated the noise would occur, when she started the vehicle, followed by the battery light illuminating. The battery light would eventually go off and then the vehicle would make the screeching noise again. The problem started intermittently in October and one day it completely drained the battery. The battery was replaced and the issue continued, becoming more frequent. When the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, they informed her the problem was the drive belt, which was replaced. The noise continued and a hot burning smell appeared after the screeching noise. The consumer went to get a second opinion and was informed the problem was the clutch pulley in which a recall had been issued, but not for her model. The consumer then went back to the dealer with the new information and was told she needed a new alternator. The consumer also stated there was an issue with the vehicle idling in a strange manner. The vehicle randomly vibrated and idled very low when stopping at a red light or stop sign.

Bought used 2009 Toyota Corolla (5 speed manual clutch) vehicle in mid 2011. Noticed that the gas pedal, brake and clutch are oddly very close, and gas pedal seems to stick, which seems to cause error in shifting/ acceleration/ de-acceleration, especially when using in between gears. Not sure what that is all about, or whether or not there has been a prior complaint about this or recall, but I think it should be brought to the attention and fixed by Toyota for safety reasons.

When I stopped at a stop sign, it stalled and has done so on several more occasions since. I also had a problem on the freeway when I was going about 65 mph and it pulled back like it was going to stop but then finally went back up to speed. I just bought the car on 8/31/11 from a car dealer. I went on the Toyota owners website to register the next day and noticed that the previous owner had a stalling problem as well and had it looked at and nothing was found.

I was currently on 1 and 9 North of jersey city NJ. I was on a stop light and when it turned green, the car did not accelerate as much as it was suppose to when you press on gas pedal. It was literally moving 5 miles per hour. I was pressing the gas pedal for the car to go but it was still not even moving up. I turned on the hazards and pulled over. Then the check engine light came on. I turned off the car first. I checked the gas tank and the engine but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. The check engine light was lit until the next day. I brought it to the car dealership and they said they are not 100% sure what is wrong with it but they disconnected the alarm wire to see if that was the problem. The second problem of this car is when you press on the brake, it still moves a little bit. When you start going and pressing on the gas pedal, you have to press on it harder for it to go but it gases up than it normally does. I have recently saw the previous owners receipts for its car service and he had the same problem. He always had to fix the accelerator but until now, it is still the same and still needs to be fixed. I don't know what to do and where to go to fix this problem.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 15 to 20 mph while making a left turn the vehicle stalled. He was able to coast onto the emergency lane. He restarted the vehicle and it began to function normally. He drove approximately 5 miles and the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least seven times. While driving approximate 65 mph with the cruise control activated the vehicle began to accelerate. He engaged the brake pedal and the vehicle slowed down. He took his vehicle to the dealer for a recall repair and they did not replace the floor mats. The contact was unable to provide a VIN. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.

Corolla

  • 13,000 miles
2009 Toyota Corolla car was recalled for brake problem. When I have the below problem, the brakes will not stop the car. Engine revs up for no reason when the car is stopped. In my case, all engine speed ups occurred when I was stopped, and my foot was on the brake. It has happened about 10 times since I have owned the car. The last time it occurred, I was stopped at a stop sign, and the engine sped up and forced me into the intersection, where I ran into the side of a pickup. The engine has sped up when I first started the car, and the car was in park, and my foot on the brake. Toyota has looked at my car and said there is nothing wrong with it. Toyota said that I had an after market floor mat on the drivers side and that is a no/no. When the engine sped up with me driving, there was no mat on the driver side floor, except the Toyota mat and it was restrained by the clips. Do car manufactures ever look at comments made my their customers? in my case, I was told no.
