The contact owned a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and exiting a parking lot when the vehicle accelerated on its own, veered to the left, and crashed into a gate. No warning lights were illuminated and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injury to the right shoulder, right foot, and right hand, but did not seek medical attention. No police report was filed. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a towing company. Additionally, the contact stated in 2021 while reversing from a parking space, as the vehicle was driving forward, it veered to the left and crashed into a tree. The vehicle was towed to the to be diagnosed and repaired. Per the contact, the dealer offered no diagnosis or reason for the acceleration. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

I was told it was caused by the floormat which it obviously was not. The accelerator pedal sticks and they will not fix it under the previous recall. My car is a manual. I was driving about 25mph when in between 3rd and 4th the car engine revved up to about 5K or 6K RPM. I tried to just hit the gas but it wouldn't go back down. I did not release the clutch. I had to turn the car off and restart it so it wouldn't do that again. It happened again after that and I did the same thing by restarting it. I noticed a different pressure in the gas pedal with my foot during this occurrence. After the second time, it did not occur again. This is the second time this has happend. It happened about 10,000miles before. This happened at about 101,500miles.

The parts needed for the repair were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (gambrel Toyota dealer, located in corbin, ky), but the parts were not available for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect and VIN tool confirms parts not available.

On 21 October 2016 at approximately 9:30 am, I experienced a sudden unintended acceleration with my 2009 Corolla. I was parking the car in the parking lot at the embassy suites hotel in norman, ok when the incident occurred. I reversed the vehicle to straighten it up in in a parking space; then, I put the transmission in drive to pull forward. As the car started to roll forward, in an instant, the vehicle's engine self -accelerated to full throttle. With my left foot on the foot rest pedal (dead pedal) and right foot fully depressed on the brake pedal, the ABS braking system functioned properly making an audible clicking sound as the car continued darting forward at full throttle. With the vehicle at approximately a 30 degree angle to the curb in front of the parking space, the forward momentum of the vehicle with the ABS braking system fully engaged, the driver's side front wheel bounced over the curb, the passenger's side front wheel stopped against the curb and the engine self-decelerated. As the engine decelerated, an audible clicking sound could be heard coming from the engine compartment that stopped as the engine returned to an idle. I have no explanation as to what caused the vehicle's engine to self-accelerate to full throttle, nor can I explain why it self-decelerated back to an idle. Possibly, the vehicle hitting the curb with the driver's front wheel and bouncing over the curb could have caused the engine to self-decelerate. There was no personal injury or property damage involved in the incident. Had a person been walking in front of my car in the parking lot during the sudden unintended acceleration event, they would have been seriously injured if not killed. The fowler Toyota dealership of norman, ok evaluated the vehicle and concluded the incident was caused by misapplication of pedal. An edr was downloaded, evaluated and inconclusive.

Takata recall: How could this have a recall and your company is stalling to complete this recall when you are knowing that when driven we can get into a major fatal car accident with the airbags forcing pressure against our bodies and even can burn our face and moreso death can appear during this incident. I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla (le). I bought it almost exactly 3 years ago with about 12,300 miles on it. Currently, it does not have 50K. I have to drive downtown for nursing school, it takes roughly 20-30 minutes. The very terrifying and incredibly dangerous issue that I have been having is that I will be driving 65mph on the expressway and it will suddenly just drop down to 30/40mph. Due to this issue, I have almost been in a crash. I will change lanes thinking my car will accelerate to pass someone and it will just drop down to 30mph! also, while I am idle, it will shake and rev..so the RPM will be up close to 2; yet, I am idle! I have read of others experiencing similar issues. This is so dangerous and I do not understand why this has not been addressed sooner. The worst part is no one knows what is wrong. I took it and had a diagnostic test run, it said one of the ignition coils was faulty..on a 2009 Toyota with less than 50K miles...that doesn't sound, right huh. Well, I took it to a mechanic and they gave me a new battery, an oil change and ran another diagnostic test (after switching the ignition coil(B) to another (acord). It recorded nothing. I spent $500 it was fine for about an hour then the check engine light came back on and it started doing the same thing. I am very angry with Toyota for not addressing this issue, especially since others have experienced it and it is dangerous. My safety and the safety of others is at risk.

The high beams on the headlights come on without the control being touched. This began when I first bought the car & still does. At first it would happen at any time of the day but now it happens only when it is dark or getting dark. This could impair the vision of the driver of an oncoming vehicle. It is most dangerous on narrow streets. There are other electrical problems that occur from time to time such as the cruise control, power mirrors, air conditioner, driving & dash lights not working. Also the dome light has remained on causing the battery to run down.these latter problems do not seem to pose the threat that the headlights do but they seem to be connected & they are a distraction that could cause problems. I have taken my car to the dealer many times but they never corrected the problem.

Toyota sent me an undated notice of a limited service campaign to install smart stop technology. When I took my car in for the installation, Toyota said I first had to have an inspection because I had actually experienced an unintended acceleration though there was no damage or injury. Despite my daily phone calls, they have yet to schedule that inspection and to install smart stop, leaving me without a car because they tell me not to drive mine until smart stop is installed.

My daughter was driving the Corolla with a friend in the passenger seat. She entered the driveway at a local strip mall. She proceeded to turn left into a parking stall and was preparing to apply the brakes when the Corolla suddenly accelerated and mounted a raised landscaped area in front of the stall. The Corolla traveled about 15 feet before it struck a large, metal, electrical utility box and stopped. Both my daughter and her friend were seat belted and were not injured. Skid marks on the asphalt pavement appear to indicate that the right rear wheel was locked as the Corolla accelerated. Investigators from Toyota and the insurance company inspected the Corolla and could not determine the cause of the unintended acceleration.
