While making a left-hand turn, my wife, driving our 2010 Toyota Corolla, was struck by a driver running a red light. The other driver (in a Volvo wagon) did not see the light, nor break, striking the Corolla on the driver's side door and wheel area at approx. 35-40 mph. The force of the impact was enough to crumple the Corolla's door and wheel area, leaving the car totaled. No airbags deployed, not even the side airbags, leaving my wife with a concussion from the accident. The 2010 Toyota Corolla was purchased new this past fall, had only 9,000 miles on it and had sustained no previous damage or accidents. The mechanics at the autoshop where the car was deemed totaled said that they had no clue as to why the airbags did not deploy. Since the car was new, I am wondering if there was a defect in the airbags that prevented them from going off.
