Corolla S 5-speed Mt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,494 miles

This is the second time I have had to do this. After I picked it up, although the auto service station said it was fixed, it worked only once. Returned to correct.

Corolla S 5-speed Mt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,500 miles

So, I was told that the "flow detection sensor pigtail" a small section of the engine wiring harness, was the only portion that needed replaced, however, only the WHOLE harness is sold despite the fact that only about "6-inches" of it will be used.

My auto service guy is looking in salvage yards all around our area to locate a viable part, however, he said that all the compatible cars he looked at all ready had that section of the harness removed. He stated that this is a COMMON problem with this vehicle.

This is ridiculous.. that if Toyota knows they built a faulty "flow detection sensor pigtail" of the harness but won't make only the section needed, and instead they sell ONLY the ENTIRE engine wiring harness at an exorbitant cost. It's unconscionable!

I feel bad for my auto service guy, but honor his commitment to locate that section to get my car cooling. August in Florida, SUMMER in Florida, is not a time for the AC to go out, especially since I already paid to replace the compressor... for a second time. I bought the car in 2015.

What else can go wrong?

Corolla EX 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The 2012 Toyota corollas sold in Trinidad & Tobago have an inherent issue with the AC compressor. My vehicle has only completed 40,000 KM and I know other corolla owners who have the same issue with low mileages. There is a problem and Toyota is making the consumers pay for new compressors because it is highly priced.

No new vehicle purchase should have a compressor issue with such a low mileage and the vehicle is one year over its warranty period so they said that is too long for it to be under a warranty item.

All issues should be collected and lodged against Toyota for hiding this defect. I will never service my vehicle again by them and buy another Toyota.

We used to belive in this brand and the long lasting lifetime of the parts because we pay a premium price for quality. Why now should we pay a premium price and still have to pay for defective parts.

I really hope that Toyota gets this message because I will be educating other car owners regarding this issue.

Update from Jun 27, 2017: It was a faulty solenoid switch switch in the compressor, but Toyota in Trinidad does not sell this separately, therefore they said that the whole compressor has to be replaced. Many other Toyota users had the same issue, some of them were lucky to have it replaced in the warranty period but the majority had to fix it at their own cost, which is unacceptable.
