I have a rattling noise coming from the trim between my clock and my radio. Whenever I apply pressure to the trim, the noise disappears. However once I let go, the noise comes back. It's extremely annoying.

Toyota definitely has very good impression in the public and this made me believe in Toyota and go for a Corolla for my daily commute to office. After using the vehicle for 3/4 months, I started hearing this rattling noise from the dash board. Place your hand on the dash board and press it firm, there's no noise. This one is not really loud but is definitely annoying when there's no music playing. Looking forward to move on to a better vehicle but definitely not going toToyota any more.

This problem will probably cause me to not buy another Toyota and to sell my current Corolla as soon as my payments are done - if not before.

Based purely on reputation, most people including myself are comfortable purchasing a new Toyota with confidence that the new vehicle will last a long time with no significant issues of reliability and quality. Unfortunately, that has not been the case with my 2014 Toyota Corolla.

This car was great for about the first 8 months of ownership. After about 18 months of ownership, the true quality of the craftsmenship of this car is annoyingly apparent. I am currently dealing with the following, each of which became a new problem about two months apart:

1. Rattling from the rear passenger door that occurs on smooth roads and freeways, only when the car is in motion. When I reach my destination, I press the door panel in at various areas. When I start to travel again, there is no rattling for about 3 minutes, then it starts up again.

2. Rattling from the dashboard - from what I can tell it's coming from the center of the dashboard. Only way to stop the rattling is to press down on the dashboard. As soon as I remove my hand, it continues.

3. Louder rattling (more of a metal sound than a plastic one) coming from the front right passenger door. This one has just started about 3 weeks ago and I've hit my limit. I've removed everything from my center console, glove box and around the door/seat and it persists. Haven't found how to stop this one from making noise.

I've taken this car into the dealership at least twice for #1 and #2 and once for #3. Even showed them video of the noises from my phone to prove it to them after they said they couldn't replicate it on their mechanic's drive around the block. The overall response to my issues is that it's "natural noise from driving over uneven surfaces" and that to dig deeper into my issue I have to go through their upper management and was told "will probably take up to a year to figure out the issue and the solution". Plainly put, these are unacceptable responses to quality issues for a big investment purchase. It's worthless "complaining" to Toyota because they seem to just blow it off. Overall, I'm disappointed in Toyota and can't wait to relieve myself of this situation by selling this problem back to a Toyota car salesman - we'll see if he/she hears the rattle during our test drive before they take the keys.

Corolla S 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 100 miles

Shortly after purchasing this vehicle I started hearing a rattle that appeared to be coming from the dashboard area near the passenger windshield pillar. The rattle was not loud but could not be ignored if there was no other sound in the car (such as the radio) to cover the noise. The rattle was most noticeable at speeds less than 40 mph on pavement that was not very smooth and I could not hear it at higher speeds. The rattle could be heard in warm or cold weather. After 10,000 miles, a louder rattle now seems to be coming from the same general area but more toward the dashboard area between the glovebox and the windshield. The rattle can be heard regardless of interior temperature and is especially noticeable on uneven pavement. Now that the rattle is more consistent, I will try to have the dealership correct this problem. I am very pleased with this Toyota, but manufacturing and design quality were primary factors behind my decision to buy another Toyota and this model seems to have an issue with one or both.

Rattling dash! This actually started over a year ago, not long after I purchased the car. The first time I realized the noises were not going to just go away was within the first 6,000 miles or so. I've taken it to the dealership so many times that I've lost count. The original dash was pulled out and "insulated" at least twice.

There was also an attempt to tie down and stabilize some wires that were thought to be the cause. I've even gone so far as to have a new dash installed. For a time this seemed to have done the trick except for the minor rattles coming from the dash vents on the driver and passenger sides. Those continued to rattle but it was bearable.

Now, suddenly the rattles in the middle of the dash have returned. I have no idea why. Cooler weather? Maybe. Don't know and don't care. It shouldn't be an issue and definitely shouldn't be one that has continued for this long. I'm currently attempting to work with Toyota and the dealership.

After all that I've just mentioned, I STILL have to take my car back to the dealership so the service manager can take a test ride to determine where the noise is coming from...I assume this is more to determine my level of craziness than to confirm a WELL KNOWN issue with this car.

This is a major disappointment from the Toyota brand. Consumers have a much higher expectation and they just aren't living up to their reputation.

Several plastic-y "cracking" rattles in this car. There's an intermittent clicking rattle coming from the dashboard defroster grill. It goes away after I turn on the defroster and increase the air temperature at the same time. I can also get the rattle to go away by lightly pressing on the center of the defroster grill. The rattle seems dependent on the temperature and/or humidity as it seems worse during colder months. Dealer could not duplicate. There's another rattle coming from the black colored instrument panel bezel. I can get the rattle to go away by pushing on the left side of the bezel next to the air vent. There are also smaller rattles coming from the top of the front driver and passenger door panels. The dashboard construction reminds me of the old "snap-together" model cars I made as a kid. Lots of plastic-on-plastic rubbing and creaking. I'll probably have to live with it. Very unexpected and disappointing problem for a Toyota.

Corolla LE ECO 1.8L

I have about the same problem as Jordan A., Mundelein, IL, USA posted "Rattles Coming From Passenger Side Dashboard". I purchased a new Toyota Corolla 2014, LE Eco from a dealership in Lubbock, TX. After about a month or about 1,000 miles, the car started to make rattling noise from the center dashboard, especially during the start up and continue for at least 10-15 minutes every time.

I had the mechanics at the dealership service department looked at the problem twice (leaving the car with them 3 days/3 nights each time). They said it was a heat shield problem and it was fixed after I picked both times. It was not true. The rattling noise still exists. Worst, the second time while I left the car with the service department, the salesman loaned me a brand new Toyota Corolla 2014, L model (had only 4 miles on it). Guess what, that Corolla L model does the same rattling noise! What's going on here?

I love my car it's great, my first new car. But, when you have it on the head setting or the head and foot setting the car starts to rattle from the inside of the dash. It only does this when the car is cold and when the temp outside is under 50 degrees. Maybe weather related? It goes away when the car is at operating temp. The rattle only happens in these two settings as I mentioned above. Took it to the dealer 3 times they could never find the problem. They always had the car on defrost mode, to me that's why they could not find the problem? Help anyone??
