high rpm and lower gear when using sport mode

When I put my car into sport mode and accelerate the vehicle. The vehicle is stuck in a higher RPM because the transmission switches to a lower gear after letting off on the accelerator. I have to take the vehicle out of sport mode to take control of the RPM’s and lower gear problem.
