I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander and a few months ago I heard a grinding and clicking coming from the rear brake area. Had a much needed brake job done but the problem was not fixed. The grinding and clicking became louder so I took car back to my mechanic. He was determined to find the solution and spent most of the day working on it. Turned out the lower caliper bracket bolts needed to be replaced due to heat, metal fatigue or whatever. (The car is over 10 years old).
The bolts were not doing what they were suppose to regarding the calipers. Replaced them and no more sound. Hope is helps others with rear brake problems.
