Very disappointed in the performance of my automatic transmission especially since the transmission has got only 60+ thousand miles on it! Was told by 2 transmission mechanics that the planetary gears on toyota highlanders are weak & often that is what causes the automatic transmissions to go out on these. The toyota highlander should be recalled by Toyota Corp. when having shuddering problems while accelerating. I spent about 3 thousand on a rebuilt transmission & after a month and a half the problem has not been fixed & it is in the shop again right now. I have had 3 toyotas in my life, this is the first with an automatic transmission.

The Toyota Highlander is equipped with an engine control module (ECM) that acts as the vehicle's brain. When this component fails, it can cause the engine and transmission to operate improperly, as the sensors on the engine and transmission can no longer communicate.
Toyota knows they have a defect with this part and refuse to admit it and pay for fixing ($1,400). It is dangerous when you push the gas pedal and the car does not react appropriately by accelerating. This could lead to an accident. If it does, I will be filing a negligent lawsuit against them.
