About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
After being driven or idling for awhile, the car starts cutting out. It acts like it isn't getting gas. I have to pump the accelerator or push it to the floor. Hills especially cause it to stall. It was so bad, I had it towed. The scan showed a oxygen sensor problem. Had that replaced. It drove ok for awhile. It has resumed the stalling. When I read the recall, it sounded like my car would be included. The VIN # shows it not being on the list. Please verify because it cuts out, acting like it isn't getting fuel. The area I was in was a country road with no shoulders to pull off on. It also happened on a 4 lane highway. If it is not a recall, any suggestion will be appreciated. The exact days in September are an educated guess. Thank you.

My 2008 Highlander only has 130,000 miles, yet the driver's side visor drops and falls unexpectedly while driving, thus causing a driving safety hazardthe vehicle is accident free. I have codes check engine, vsc and trac off. Gas cap was replaced with new official Toyota matched part & system checked but problem found - this display light combination is common on Toyota around this time.. my gas mileage & acceleration performance is negatively affected. Inability to properly accelerate creates a danger for inability to avoid collisions.

Once after parking and then twice while driving on a highway, the check hybrid system light, the vsc light, the check engine light, and the caution light all illuminated and the vehicle lost all power including steering assistance. Each time requiring multiple key turns to restart the vehicle into limp home mode. This vehicle has been repaired once before for a similar issue which occurred while driving up a hill in moderate traffic. The tank is full of fuel, the tires are less than a year old, and the vehicle undergoes regular maintenance(which includes a new battery as the one bought from Toyota had a few dead cells after only a year or two). I've read multiple complaints about this online while searching for the underlying issue and there seems to be a related recall that doesn't include my VIN.

06 Highlander hybrid and am unable to fill gas tank without nozzle clicking off thirty or more times. Doesn't seem to matter what angle, brand of gas or distance. -- my technician said a new gas tank need to be replace and it cost $1700... this parts should be a safety measure and work during the live of the vehicle.... Toyota sell me defective fuel tank.

Sudden acceleration. Vehicle was stopped, with foot on brake, when sudden acceleration occurred very rapidly. Brake pressure could not keep vehicle from lurching foward and hitting the rear a of stopped vehicle. I never use my left foot on the brake, so I can never hit the brake and accelerator simultaneously.

Our 2006 Toyota Highlander hybrid would not start on several occasions. The car had been running for some time, turned off for 5 minutes and then it would not restart. After sitting for a few hours it restarted. Some times it had to be jumped and the code read "shift to park" even though it was already in park. I took it in and everything checked out and of course they said that they never heard of this happening before.
