About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
While stopped at a light or driving, our 2007 Toyota Highlander hybrid (246,000 miles) will stall, lighting various warning lights on the dash. The vehicle will (coast to a stop if being driven and) have to be restarted. Toyota did recall D0M to address code P0A40 to address this issue. The recall on my vehicle was done in 2014. The code which came up then is the very same code which is showing now when scanned. The recall issue needs to be addressed again. The recall provides a new intelligent power module (part # 04001-29148 transistor, pwr module intelligent. NO2) and specific grease (part # 08887-02409) to complete the project. I checked and parts alone cost the consumer around $2600 (columbus oh), not counting labor costs. Toyota said they will not do the recall again because they have not had enough complaints to justify one and it is not a safety issue. I called back multiple times to verify this was their stance on the issue. The vehicle is not trustworthy to maintain power while being driven and it will stall multiple times while stopped at lights during the day.
