It started with the clear coat cracking, then paint failure so galvanized metal is visible and starts to rust. Clear coat visibly failed on hood first, now the top of the vehicle (flat surfaces).

At first we thought it was a mark from a rock, but after dozens showed up we realized it was peeling paint.

paint peeling

As I was drying the car from the car wash, I noticed paint peeling from the rocker panel of the passenger front door. I looked over the area where it was peeling, and there was no evidence of impact from road debris.

I took the vehicle to the dealer for their input and recommended action. Basically I'm SOL since the car is out of the 36,000 mile warranty. I thought of taking the issue directly to Toyota Motor Sales since the car is less than three years old (approximately 33 months), but I just decided to deal with it using touch up paint.
