Highlander V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 129,000 miles

ENGINE OIL LEAKED ALMOST EMPTY.

WHEN I PICKED UP KID FROM SCHOOL PARKING ON THE DRIVEWAY ON THAT RAINY DAY, SAW A LEAK LINE ON THE WET GROUND. THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY I FILLED A QT OIL TO THE LEVEL AND DROVE TO REPAIR SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN SAID ALMOST ALL 5.5 QT OIL LEAKED OUT. TURNED OUT IT WAS TIMING CHAIN COVER'S SILICON SEALER BROKEN SO THAT THE OIL WAS UNDER VERY HIGH PRESSURE TO LEAK OUT.

I AM THE PERSON ALWAYS CHECK AROUND MY CAR BEFORE GOING OUT, IF NOT CHECKING, THINGS COULD BE VERY BAD IF NO OIL INSIDE THE ENGINE WHEN RUNNING ON THE ROAD.

Highlander V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

2008 Highlander. V6. 68,000 miles.

Took car into non-Toyota mechanic for standard oil change change. Received call that LEAK IN TIMING CHAIN COVER caused oil to get all over. Estimated cost $2,000+ for 17 hours labor. Parts not included. (Trustworthy mechanic and I have been using him for 25+ years)

Searched all over the internet for this problem, but cannot find any info on this type of problem. Is this a common occurrence or, am I just one of the lucky ones? ARRRGH!

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
