problem #1

Oct 012015

Highlander Limited 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The liftgate window struts started corroding after only 3 years because they are located outside the window seal, so they are exposed to water, road salt etc. They stick right when first opening the window. It really stresses out the glass & I'm afraid one day the window will explode into a million pieces in my face. It looks like the strut shaft is made out of cheap stainless steel which corroded in the closed position.

Update from Feb 24, 2017: Figured out to fix this - take a utility knife & scrape the rust off the stainless steel shafts. Couple minutes of scraping & it opens smoothly now.
