This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Toyota dealer.
2018 Toyota HIghlander Limited AWD passenger side blind spot monitoring system does not see large semi trucks and sometime cars as will. There is no failure indication but I cannot trust this system anymore. Dealer says keep monitoring it and give them as many details as possible. This problem is not always present so makes it hard to show dealer but its definitely a dangerous issue and Toyota needs to address this problem.

We just bought this car & love it except for the issue with the BSM working intermittently. We noticed this problem on the drive home the day we bought it. This is a real safety issue because if you can't see the car your passing in your blind spot to know when you are clear to change lanes. You can't rely on a safety system that only works intermittently. That is one of the primary reasons we bought the car is due to Toyota's safety systems. The car is currently in the shop. Waiting to see what they will do. We have plenty of videos showing this system working and not working. I had a Ford Explorer that had the BSM & it worked 100% all the time.
