After about 3000km on our new 2022 Highlander Platinum, we began seeing massive amounts of burning oil on cold startup. Every couple of starts, the vehicle would produce a massive 20-30 second long plume of thick blue smoke pump out of the exhaust, followed by a thick black cloud. After catching this a few times, I spoke to my mechanic to confirm my thoughts and decided to resolve the issue by getting rid of the car.
This is something that I would expect out of a cheap, used jalopy - not a brand new Toyota gas engine that has been around for a while, and that was meticulously broken in as per guidelines.
Toyota could not offer much other than a note on my service record in case the engine fails, or a trade in (which works out well for them because they can flip the car and sell it twice in one year)… so this is my first - and last - Toyota. Buying this car was an absolute waste of time and money.
Sadly I even bought the ECP Platinum warranty - thinking that it would help down the road. Nope. Could not be bothered to address the issue and could not even get a refund on the warranty because 60 days had passed by a week. Not even a partial refund in good will to show me intent - to give me incentive to try again.

Avoid Toyota. They are not what they used to be.
