MR2 Spyder 1.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 109,000 miles

i think its stupid how they design the piston rings, and very stupid that the fact they use precat exhaust on mr2 spyder but not on any other makes that has these same engine, like prizm, collora, maxtrix, celica, vibe, im sure i left some more out.. i have to get new engine for this mr2 spyder, bec it ran out of oil in less than 50 miles. so it started to knock and loose power so its shot! i did alot of research on these engines... its junk, very poorly design engine toyota ever made unlike them older engine in toyota's. i have to look for an engine newer like 03 and up bec they changed the rings and the design of the engine, so its better than these 1zzfe engine from 98 up to 2002 since they burn oil and uses oil alot. so to save yourself a headace in the future, get yourself a newer engine of 03 and up. that is the engine code of 1zzfe but it must be 03 and up thats with the newer upgrade rings so any cars that has 1zzfe of year 98 to 2002...GOOD LUCK! keep gallon of oil with you snd check every 30 to 50 miles for oil... what a junk! and waste of money.. do not even bother rebuilding the engine its point less it will have the same problem in few thousand miles.. the precat on the mr2 spyder clogs up and it ruins the rings alot quicker so to save the low low miles engine before it ruins the engine is change the header to a high performance header that removes the precat bec they are common problems that clogs up and puts pressure and strain on the rings and cause it to get weak and then burns oil bec the oil gets through the weak rings, which the rings is already the common problem with them 1zzfe engines. so save yourself money and stay away from 98 to 2002. the late 03 and newer is better ones all upgraded and changed. i would get my hands on the 06 1zzfe engines since they have more horsepower.. dont get me wrong i love them mr2 spyder and its light weight, but the year 2000 to 2002 has the worst engine ever other than that its a perfect car.. either a newer 03 and up engine or a engine swap to beefy ones is a must for these mr2's
