This is a well known problem with the Toyota Matrix. Some 2005 and 2006 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles may exhibit M.I.L "ON" with DTCs P043E, P043F, P2402, and P2410 stored. The EVAP pump module, which is part of the charcoal canister assembly, has been improved to correct the condition. Toyota reported this in a January 30, 2006 Technical Service Bulletin and would only cover this under the warranty period of up to 36 months. This was only available in the US and not Canada. They did not make this part of a recall and did not inform their customers.
Has anyone else incurred a problem with the EVAP pump module - charcoal canister assembly and if so, did you receive any assistance from Toyota and / or the dealership? Is this worth fighting for or should I let it go and absorb the 600.00 - 800.00 replacement and labour costs they have estimated for the repair?
