Complete brake repair at 44,430. Outrageous. The mechanic asked me if I drive in the city (Chicago). I live out in the boonies of DeKalb. He was surprised at the premature wear. Of course, when you call Toyota Customer Care, they refer you to the dealer. Something has to be done. No wonder Matrixes are no more. Great car except for the brake problem. Happy motoring!

Matrix 1.8L

Rear calipers seized, caused by uneven wear on pads and caused gouge in both rear brake discs.

Correction; Replaced rear brake calipers and rear brake pads and rotors.

Thank God it was covered under warranty.

Only 38,000 km........I am not impressed.

I was expecting more from Toyota.

Matrix AWD 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,748 miles

Bought this car brand new in Spring 2010. I had it maintained at the dealership every 6 months.

Last Fall at 27,000km, I had to change the rear brake pad and rotor. This Fall at 35,000km, I have to change the front brake pad and rotor.

And the dealer told me that the rear brake are already at 80% after one year. I find unusual the brakes to worn so fast.

I like the car, and I like Toyota Services, I hope they improve the their parts, if not I guess I may considered another brand for my next car.

Matrix 1.8L

The same repairs I had done on July 2012.

The same problem using genuine Toyota parts and done by a certified Toyota mechanic.

The first time I had 38,400 km .This time around I only had 57,400 km.Do the math..that's only 19,000 km from the first repairs.

Toyota I am starting to see a pattern here. There should be a recall here because there is obviously a problem with the rear brakes.

I see that 3 other members have complained about this already, all Canadians. I never owned a car whose brakes wear so fast (50000 Km or 31000 miles). I brought the car for scheduled maintenance this morning and my Toyota dealer calls me back to tell me that the car needs all 4 disk brakes changes, something worth nearly 500$.

I will seek second advice but I am affraid it's true: I was hearing brake noises lately.

I've been driving cars for over 50 years and NEVER had rear brakes replaced at 37,000 km (approx.22,000 m). This is a rental from Toyota except that brakes are not under warranty, so I was told from Toyota. I've had other Toyotas in the pass but never had this problem I think the 2010 Matrix has a glitch with the rear brakes but the company will not admit it. I can also say this, I'm not the type of driver that drives with one foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator. My lease will be over next year and I don't think I will be renewing for another Toyota. I was extremely surprised and annoyed to have to spend this kind of money on an almost new car.

Almost two years ago, I was told that my Matrix (back) brakes had to be replaced. these were covered under a warranty of some sort. I had only approx. 25,000 km on the car then. today I was told I had to have both front and back brakes replaced as well as the pads, rotors etc. and the mileage was only 55,699 km. This is absolutely ridiculous. I've driven Toyota cars for over 20 years and never had a problem like this before. My husband has another model car, has over 250K km on his car and has had the brakes changed every 75-80,000 km. 55,000 km (especially since the back brakes were changed approx. 30K km ago, is far too soon. I'm sending a letter of complaint to Toyota Canada.. If Toyota knows the brakes are faulty, I shouldn't have to pay for them at all.

Brakes were so worn, they were cutting into the rotors (had to buy two front rotors besides pads). Found a website saying this problem is a Toyota TSB and falls under Toyota Comprehensive Warranty (TCW). http://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/91637/premature-toyota-front-brake-pad-wear After more surfing of the web. Since I bought my car Certified Used, TCW does not apply to my car
