In July 2015, I found engine oil level was dropped to the bottom of the dipstick when doing the maintenance. The Toyota Service staff never notified me about this problem during the past five years of maintenance. Then, they suggested to do a oil consumption test for 2000 km. The test report said the vehicle consumed 0.4L/2000 km, which was acceptable and no fix was suggested. The staff suggested me to keep eyes on it and top up when necessary. I didn't think too much about it and accepted.

At first, I topped up 1L oil once every 2 months. Now, I have to top up once every two or three weeks. I estimate the oil consumption is about 1L/2000 km now. I found it is becoming more and more annoying, and wondering if this problem will damage the engine and how much to pay to fix this problem if necessary. Also, did the Toyota Service staff cheated on me to avoid fixing my vehicle when it was still under the 5yrs warranty?

I owned this Toyota Matrix S 2010 and I already put 29,000 miles on it and is having Excessive Oil Consumption on which Toyota dealers are not taking responsibility on this. The dealer at San Francisco Toyota on Geary has claimed that after the 2 test my car was performed there is no Guidelines to follow a repair on the car according to Toyota's protocol. This is unacceptable and Unfair to the consumers who paid thousands of dollar for a Junk car. I have owned several old cars and non of them would have oil consumption to the point that where it reaches the 5,000 miles for service there is no oil on the dip stick.

My dad was a mechanic and he mentioned before he died that this was a defective pistons problems and it would cost to much money and a should address this with the dealer who sold the car with this issue. Toyota is a huge fraudulent dealer who is aware of all of this recalls and yet claim there is not problem. This is consider a safety hazard for me and my family as well who has to ride in this car alone with me. DO NEVER BUY A TOYOTA this is my advice.

I have been having a oil consumption issues with my 2010 Toyota matrix for the past few years. I have received a letter from Toyota that they know of the problem. Ive taken my car in twice so far for a oil consumption test. And both times they say its within the recommended limits of oil loss. But by the time I take my car in for the recommended time for a oil change I have almost no oil left and now my car has a engine rattle when I accelerate. Also every morning my garage fills with smoke from tailpipe. I showed a video of it to a service advisor and he just brushed it off.
