Exterior mirrors. Good and bad. The good news is that Toyota re-designed this part and they have lasted many years since I replaced both exterior mirrors using my own money. The bad news is that this was a significant issue that affected the vehicle safety. There was NO recall by Toyota, whom I have learned not to trust anymore as they just do not recall or take responsibility for anything, unless maybe several hundred people die and they need to cover this up.

The problem in this case was that the mirrors just "fell off". Not directly falling off the vehicle onto the ground but they just broke inside - BOTH of them - causing them to become loose and just flop around - hang, etc. They were no longer useful and did not perform as real view "mirrors" anymore. The vehicle must have been about 10 miles out of warranty in 1989 so I had to pay, even though this was an obivous safety related defect. I've seen recalls for much older vehicles, for safety issues, that were covered and were less serious than this but not Toyota! Oh what a feeling.....
