The dealer gave me an excellent remedy for this problem. Here is what they said "They all do that." It was pretty much their answer for every problem this vehicle has had. I still own this vehicle unfortunately, but cannot part with it due to the fact that I probably have $25,000 into it at this time. It sits now anyway and has for 10 years or more. But if I do have it out and If I'm in a parking lot, many times I will intentionally "advertise" for Toyota by turning the steering wheel all the way in one direction. The most horrid sound you've ever heard will come out of it. A wretched "squeaking/grinding" sound where the stop meets a piece of metal and prevents the steering from going further. This horrid sound always turns heads. The only solution I know is to grease this area VERY regularly, as in once every 100 miles or so - not very practical as solutions go.
