Check engine light came on three times before starting 1/4/14. I didn't record dates and mileage for two of these episodes. Brought vehicle in to mechanic for diagnosis. Each time code was for oxygen sensor. I have noticed lower mpg.

The car is burning 1 qt of oil about every 1200 miles. It's now experiencing a significant loss of power. The "check engine" light has come on and the dealer's diagnostic (Larry H. Miller Toyota in Murray, Utah) indicates that the catalytic converter is probably filled with unburned oil. The unburned oil is probably due to piston ring failure. The solution is to replace the piston rings (rebuild the engine) at a cost of at least $2,500 and replace the catalytic converter at $2,000.
